Create a Beautiful Kitchen For Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a marvelous time of the year; the weather is cold and brisk and the families are all making plans to be together in someone’s home. Sharing and remembering holidays past, and the ones who are no longer among us. It is the one time of the year where family get-togethers are not centralized around gift giving or BBQ pits! Just some great food, memories, and thanksgiving for the blessings that we have had all year long; celebrated by Americans no matter what country they may now be in.

The kitchen has long been called the heart of a home, and for good reason, it is where we create the dishes that nourish the physical body, and the memories that nourish the spirit. Our love of fantastic recipes, and the gorgeous gadgets we surround ourselves with in order to prepare the traditional and the exotic foods we love. Thanksgiving comes in the late fall when the abundance of earthy tones surrounds us. Bringing those brilliant and subdued hues into our kitchens can be a way to provide colors to remind us of our ties to the earth in harvest times long ago.

Although kitchens are busy this time of year, they are often forgotten in the decorating scheme, try adding a few earth toned rugs to add warmth and depth to your kitchen. A splash of color in front of the sink can be achieved with a rusty red rug, or even the beautiful hues of burnt orange rugs at the entrance, and back doorways. Placing a traditional welcome rug at the backdoor can tell friends they are welcome into the heart of your home, not as guest but as adopted family, after all only family uses the backdoor!

Placing glowing candles in a kitchen can serve many purposes. The scents invoke memories, the flickering light is homey and reminiscent of a time when electricity was not a word found in Webster’s great book, and they add a touch of warmth to the gleaming coldness of most appliances. Everyone wants their home to be warm and inviting, and candles can do that for every room in the house.

Bring in touches of harvest time by adding displays of pumpkins, gourds, and dried corn. For a small kitchen placing them along a window sill, or atop the fridge, can achieve a nice sense of the season, and not be overpowering. For larger kitchens, a bundle of wheat stalks tied with raffia, and placed amidst a display of bronze and yellow chrysanthemums would be a magnificent sight to greet your family and friends who come in search of cider and a warm cookie. Colorful tea towels in rust reds, burnt oranges, dark greens and browns, add touches of fall all around the room. Place baskets and bowls of nuts and fruits overflowing with colors and scents to draw everyone together and relax, and enjoy the happiness simple companionship and great conversation brings to any home.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful, special day for everyone, and with the colors of fall brought into your home, you have created the perfect backdrop for a fabulous celebration season to begin.
