Cure Chronic Anxiety by Knowing Its Causes

Chronic anxiety means that you are always in a state of panic, albeit in different levels. There are instances where anxiety is somewhat low, the problem is that at any time, often without warning it will build up inside you and suddenly explode, giving the sufferer a lot of discomfort.

The key to ridding one’s self from this debilitating condition is to know exactly how the sufferer contracts anxiety. To know this, you will need some background information on the person. Do not think that anxiety is a mental disease, it is not. The uneasy mental state that sufferers get into when in the middle of a panic attack is only due to the abnormal amounts of adrenaline coursing through their bloodstream at the time. Even though the brain is what caused the abnormal adrenaline flow in the first place, anxiety is still far from craziness.

It is normal for large doses of adrenaline to cause a person to feel like he’s “out of it”, or the feeling of being in the clouds. Adrenaline however is a normal function of the human body. The brain releases it if it senses that the body is in danger. However, anxiety mixes up the signals going to the brain this causing it to release more adrenaline than it normally should.

There are several causes that can make the brain behave in this manner. Most of the time it is caused by a particularly traumatic life experience to the person. However, just knowing the root of the problem doesn’t do much in treating anxiety attacks. Chronic anxiety is not only caused by a slightly malfunctioning nervous system, it is also caused by the sufferer feeding the beast that is anxiety by either trying to escape from it or fighting it.

Releasing of adrenaline is a natural function that is hardwired in every human being’s brain. Adrenaline is released when the brain senses that the body is under threat of harm, adrenaline allows the body to perform almost over its limits so that it can overcome the perceived threat. This is the natural survival instinct that was very helpful for the human race’s ancestors. But this instinct goes haywire when anxiety steps in, it causes mixed signals to come into the brain.

Being in the middle of a panic attack is in itself a scary experience, which is why people will tend to run away from it. But since adrenaline is released when you’re trying to run away from a threat, it will only make things worse. It’s like trying to douse a kitchen fire using gasoline.

In the long run, the only way to rid yourself of anxiety disorder is to just plainly accept whatever scary feelings that are brought about by your slightly malfunctioning nervous system. If you’re able to do this, then your brain will know that the body is in no immediate danger and it has no reason to pump your entire system full of adrenaline. And without adrenaline to feed it, anxiety will naturally start to go away on its own.
