How Important Is Web Content Development?
If you are website owner or web master the title of this article is probably something you hear about on a regular basis and most likely annoys you quite a lot. Ok to answer the question of web content development ‘it’s damn important’ but not for any single reason. Content is important for a whole host of reasons when it comes to websites.
First the most important reason your audience, visitors or users of your site. A simple rule that is always shouted about is to build your site for your users and this should be the same for the content. Like most websites out there the aim for your website is to make money. Surprisingly web content development plays a major part in this.
Ok your user lands on your site why have they come there? What are you offering? What’s your product or service? If by this point you have not given them good reason to stay by explaining yourself on your site you can kiss goodbye to that visit, that potential sale and anything else they could have possibly brought to the table. Fact pages need to be clear with good relevant content if not you have caused yourself a problem. The content needs to appeal to the user whether that’s through marketing or emotion remember its exactly like a shop and remember the golden rule ‘words sell’.
Hey I’m a search engine, what are you about? You might be surprised about this concept but hey search engines want to know what you are about aswell. How do they do this? Well simply their crawlers will read your sites content and if it’s not easy to find or read they won’t want to know you (not very nice I know but that’s life, simples). The basic point of this is that users use search engines to find what they are looking for and you need to give those hungry spiders some content (nom nom).
Beware though don’t just write content for search engines. You need to balance this effectively with writing for the user and search engines. Keyword stuffing is pointless and search engines won’t like it and your users will just think you are stupid. Use your content to create emotion, interaction and most importantly use it to create calls to action and encourage those click throughs and most importantly those website conversions.
If you can’t write the copy yourself then hire a copywriter, yes it costs but look at the advantages we just mentioned they are far and wide. Without a doubt pick a good copywriter and you will see you ROI fairly quickly. Remember we are in the information age so why would you not provide your users and the search engines with information. Get your writing hats on, there are numerous resources out there in the web world on writing effective web content. Remember content no matter where it is on the site is for users and search engines no matter whether the page is home, product or category page.
