How to Look Slimmer
Not everyone wants to look slimmer but there are quite a few people who carry a few more pounds than they would like and sometimes need a quick fix without the need for a diet or going to the gym. Of course going on a diet or going to the gym may well make you look slimmer but clever choice of clothes can be just as effective in the short term. Many people will want to make an extra special effort for a special occasion and it is these times when a few little stylist tricks can come in really handy.
1. Black is not the only colour -Black is a very slimming colour but it can also make some complexions look quite drained and can get boring if worn constantly. There are plenty of other alternatives to black. Navy blue, dark grey and brown are all great alternatives and not quite as harsh as all over black. Try and use darker colours to disguise the parts of your body that you like the least and use colour and pattern to highlight the parts that you love.
2. Opt for tailored and well fitting clothes – looking slim is all about the fit of your clothes. Any thing that is too tight or too loose is likely to make you look fatter or highlight those few extra pounds. Tailored clothing is especially flattering and slimming as it skims over any lumps or bumps giving a streamlined shape. Look for great tailored jackets that you can wear for any occasion.
3. Look for anything that creates a vertical line down the body – there are numerous ways to create vertical lines down the body which have the effect of elongating and slimming. The most classic way to do this is with vertical stripes but diagonal stripes also work well. Long scarves, long necklaces, coats, jackets or cardigans worn open, wrap dresses and vertical or diagonal patterns or embellishment are also great to ways to elongate the body.
4. High light the narrowest part of your body – By drawing attention to the narrowest part of your body will trick the eye into thinking that the whole length of your body is this slim. If you are an hour glass shape use a belt to highlight your waist, for apple shapes or those with no waist definition a belt in a contrasting colour or empire line dress is a great way to draw attention away from the waist.
5. Keeping everything in proportion will help you to look slimmer. Someone who looks in proportion will usually look slimmer. You can make all areas of your body look in proportion by disguising and balancing out larger areas. For example if you have larger hips and thighs, loosely fitted boot cut trousers will skim over your legs and the wide hems will balance them out. Wide neck and patterned or detailed tops also work well for balancing out large thighs.
You should always love yourself just as you are but there really is nothing wrong with playing to your strengths. Dressing stylishly is all about celebrating what you love about yourself and playing down what you might not like quite so much.
