Increasing Self Esteem in Children
As we all know, self-esteem is of great importance for everyone and it is especially essential that children feel good about themselves. This makes them confident in facing harsh times and negative pressures. Good self-esteem results in increased sense of optimism in them.
On the other hand, low self-esteem in children results in feelings of detachment and hopelessness. Such kids face a hard time being strong, locating solutions to problems and often pass into a phase of depression. This leads to withdrawal behavior and a critical attitude, with thoughts that he or she isn’t good enough.
The following points may be helpful in the growth of a healthy self-esteem in your child:
1. To counter low self-esteem in children, communicate with your child. He or she often face difficulties because of tight peer pressures. Try and help him or her to overcome it.
2. Children’s low self-esteem is a result of tem not feeling good about themselves. Give them a feeling of acceptance. Reassure your children that you will always accept and support them even when others won’t.
3. It is very essential for parents to show patience with their children. Often, low self-esteem in children from Cambridgeshire, result in poor performance at school or among friends. Do not punish or shout at them. Understand the causes that may be troubling them and for a change, instead of lecturing them, let your children speak their minds.
4. Do not make the mistake of comparing your child with others. It is a time bomb in terms of killing a child’s confidence. Your comparisons instill low self-esteem in children because they tend to consider themselves not worthy enough.
5. Self-esteem comes from self-worth. Do not just praise your child, but also appreciate him or her at not so significant occasions, like doing smaller chores. Remember your child’s flourishing self-esteem requires your back up because that is what makes him or her feel special and wanted.
6. Low self-esteem in children tends to take an oval shape at times. So, if required, seek help from therapists for self-esteem issues.
7. Show interest in your child’s needs. Find out more about it by talking to teachers and help engage in your child’s activities. Therapists often recommend that parents should acknowledge what their children are doing and why.
8. Low self-esteem in children recovers when you treat him with respect. Therapists found that during their sessions, when treated with respect, the child trusts their therapists. They ask for their opinions and feedback, which results in boosting their self-esteem.
9. Therapists for self-esteem issues in Cambridgeshire, recommend that parents assist their children in coping with their defeats. This will help them understand the ups and downs of life and will prepare them for it realistically. Children with good self-esteem tend to perform better in such situations.
Managing low self-esteem in children is a gigantic task. However, with better handling and understanding from the parents’ side, and the timely help from a therapist for self-esteem, your child will definitely perform better and have a healthy self-esteem.
