Iowa Hawkeyes – Updates on the Players

The absence of Brandon Wegher

Brandon Wegher, a prominent freshman player during last season’s games did not attend the fall camp practice of the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Sophomore running back played a total of 12 games last season and scored eight touchdowns, topping the freshmen records of the school. His total of 641 rushing yards places him in no. 3 position and his 967 all-purpose yards puts him in fourth place for freshmen. The Big Ten Roster has him in position 8 for his 4-0 score and in position 10 for 53.4 yards. Along with him, two other freshmen played in last season’s games.

The last time anyone saw Wegher in the camp was on Saturday, August 7, 2010. When asked about the strange absence of the athlete, coach Kirk Ferentz would not issue any comment. He said he will discuss the matter in public after the camp practices are over.

The only thing coach cared to reveal was that Wegher was attending to matters of personal importance. The coach assured that the athlete would very soon return to camp to resume his practice.

The matter does not seem to be of great significance because Ferentz has made no expressions of concern. Neither has he hinted that Wegher is no longer a member of the team composed of his ‘three experienced running backs.’

Clayborn chooses to stay with the Iowa Hawkeyes

Although his performance during last season’s playoff was outstanding, Hawkeyes defensive end Adrian Clayborn skipped the NFL draft for 2010. Having evaluated himself after a series of revealing incidents which followed his successful season, he feels he needs to wait a bit more before attempting to become a football pro.

In the aftermath of the praise given by his fans, The athlete was called the ‘N-word’ by a cab driver who apparently didn’t know who he was. That resulted in his punching the cabbie for which he was charged with disorderly conduct. The athlete pleaded guilty.

After that incident, Clayborn noticed that a woman was following him in his trips to Iowa City and even when he went into Kinnick stadium. The stalking went on for some months until the woman was apprehended and thrown into jail.

That series of mishaps led to Clayborn’s foregoing the 2010 NFL draft. He thinks he needs time to mellow before doing that.

It is ironical that as a child, he had been assessed by their family doctor as not having the constitution for contact sports. He recommended that he should avoid them. His mother did her best to discourage him from playing football and was definitely against his becoming a football professional.

Clayburn has been devoting time to visit children who are confined in the hospital. He also spends a lot of time playing with kids. Their family is highly regarded in their community. They admire him for wanting to stay on with the Iowa Hawkeyes and for being so friendly with kids.
