Leave Your Cat At A Cattery Whilst On Holiday
You may need to send your cat to a cattery if you go on holiday or if you are taken ill and cannot care for your cat. It is a good idea to research the catteries in your local area to ensure you send your cattery to a place where they are looked after like a home away from home.
Comfort:
You will want your cat to be comfortable whilst they are away from home. When you visit a cattery, you should enquire whether your cat can bring a familiar blanket or sleeping basket to make them feel more comfortable. You should also see whether the cattery itself looks welcoming and clean for your cat to play in.
Companionship:
Whether your cat is a lone creature, or loves to play and tumble with other cats, you will want to consider the company your cat will be keeping. You should make sure that the cat’s behaviour is monitored and that your cat will be safe whilst staying away. Cats can often be territorial, and you wouldn’t want your cat to get into a scrap with a bigger cat. You should always find out how often the cats socialise (if at all) and how they will be treated.
Cost:
Cattery costs can easily mount up, so you should consider which costs are essential and which costs will be luxuries for your cat whilst you are away. Good food and basic comfort are a must; however cat massages and luxurious shampoos may be a little treat that they can go without. You will find that cattery costs vary wildly, so make sure you know what services your cat is enjoying, so that you have value for money.
Once you have done this research, you will be able to send your cat to your preferred cattery safe in the knowledge that they will be well looked after. Whilst your pet insurance may not pay for cattery fees whilst you’re away on holiday, your insurance policy may cover emergency cattery fees if you are suddenly taken ill or taken to hospital. Your policy may cover £100 per week in cattery fees, with a maximum cost of £1,000 for the entire period of your illness. Your policy may not pay out if hospitalisation occurs due to an illness that is either known or foreseeable before cover for your pet commences.
