Wool does resist staining but over time the rug will start to loose its brightness. You can also hand wash sheepskin rugs with warm water and mild detergent (without enzymes). You cannot wash sheepskin rugs in regular washing detergent as this will strip all the natural oils from the wool and ruin the appearance of the rug. Spread the rug out flat to dry naturally (do not tumble dry). For minor stains you should avoid using harsh spot cleaners and instead use some special sheepskin cleaner (or any mild non-enzyme detergent) and gentle rub the stain and rinse off with a little warm water.
