Do you want inexpensive wedding favors that will also be beautiful and unforgettable?

Well, really, who wouldn’t?

Here’s one of my favorite wedding reception ideas: unforgettable wedding favors..

So first let’s be honest here: Most wedding favor ideas are cute. Whether they are cheap wedding favors or elegant wedding favors, any other day except on the wedding day it is still just a piece of chocolate or a photo magnet with the bride and groom’s photo, name, and wedding date on it.

Don’t get me wrong, wedding favors are a lot of fun! It’s always fun to see what the wedding couple has decided to put out for favors. But in the end, the novelty tends to wear off quickly.

So a great way to get inexpensive wedding favors that are elegant is really just to choose the cheapest wedding favor in the catalog, because in the elegant setting of a wedding, the favors will be fine.

That being said, if you have the time and energy, you can easily make unique wedding favors for your wedding. And here’s the “secret”

PERSONALIZE YOUR WEDDING FAVORS BY BACKING IT UP WITH A STORY!

The favor can really be anything, and it’s the story that makes it memorable and cute and will stick with your guests forever.

What this means is

1) the wedding favor can be just about anything as long as there’s a story to go with it

2) the story itself can be just about anything that is a part of you both, something personal.

SO HERE’S HOW TO GET THOSE UNIQUE (AND MAYBE CHEAP) WEDDING FAVORS:

1) Both of you sit and write for five minutes and write every common interest or little idiosyncracy or write how you met (in aetail!!). Do NOT think “oh this could be a discount wedding favor” or “this could tie in to cheap wedding stuff”. Just write! Five minutes seems like a long time but it goes by FAST! Brainstorming is great!

2) Time’s up! Look at each other’s list one at a time. More brainstorms will likely come as you look at each other’s lists.

3) From there you probably will have many stories and many ideas for favors to go with those stories. Write all the good candidates down.

4) Walk away for a day or two, come back to the list. Narrow it down

5) Repeat until you have your great idea!

And that’s it!

Here’s a great example:

I heard about this couple that put together this for their unique wedding favor:

A small little shotglass of jelly beans.

Now I can imagine walking in to a wedding reception and seeing a shotglass of jellybeans and thinking “oh, that’s kind of …different. And nice”

There was also a note card with the jelly beans.

The note card told a story of how the bride and groom met at work: he an engineer, she a personal assistant. She always kept a gumball machine of jelly beans on her desk. And though he liked jelly beans, he did not LOVE them but professed to her that he did – but that was just an excuse to get to go visit her and talk to her (you see he continued to pretend to love them because it made his heart melt when she did bring these gifts .

HOW CUTE IS THAT?

And NOW, how great a wedding favor is that? Personal, and unforgettable.

So that’s all there is to it for getting the best unique wedding favors. Get brainstorming!
