The DIY Wedding Table Plan
These days there is a growing tradition for people to come up with a wedding table plan which is unique and original, rather than simply recycling old ideas in the name of tradition. There is no tradition whatsoever associated with a wedding that states that when it comes to creating a wedding table plan, it must always be something borrowed, something unoriginal, something predictable, and something run-of-the-mill.
But although it is easy to say that coming up with an original wedding table plan is a good idea, it can sometimes be difficult to come up with that original idea. Of course the best way of doing this is to think about the one truly original factor associated with your wedding.
Plenty of people have probably got married at your choice of venue, plenty of people will had the same vows, perhaps even rented the same outfits for the Best Man and Groom, and maybe even chosen the same dinner. But the original factor with any wedding is clearly the Bride and Groom.
That unique combination of people provides a wealth of opportunities for coming up with an original and engaging idea for a wedding table plan. Let me give you an example of a recent wedding table plan put together by happy couple who met whilst working for a well-known DIY superstore. I’m not going to give the superstore a plug, although to be honest they’ve got plenty of their own anyway, but let’s just call it P&Q.
Clive and Naomi both worked at P&Q for several years, after which time Clive popped the question, and Naomi said yes. Fast forward a few months and when it came to coming up with a wedding table plan they had an idea that seemed irresistible.
They decided to create a wedding table plan along the lines of a tool box. You’ve probably seen the kind of toolbox that has separate compartments for different tools or items, such as picture hooks, nails and suchlike. They drew their wedding table plan along these lines, making it look as though the room was a toolbox, and each table was a compartment within the toolbox, either pulled out, rotated round or angled at a hinge.
Each section was then labelled, although in all honesty I’m quite glad that I wasn’t selected to be one of the people labelled a spanner. Rather that numbering their tables they used names for every single one, which is always an excellent idea since having wedding table numbers inevitably suggests a hierarchy, whereas naming your tables means that those people in the screwdriver department aren’t going to feel any more or less important as those on the socket wrench table.
Clive and Naomi went further, by creating place cards for each of their wedding guests, for them to see clearly where to sit. But they cut these place name cards out in different shapes, including spanners, hammers, saws and drills.
Of course, once all the speeches were over and the partying could begin, there was only one possible cocktail the happy couple could request, a screwdriver! This is just one simple example of how coming up with an original wedding table plan means looking no further than yourself.
