Wedding Favors When You’re on a Budget

Every bride wants to have the perfect wedding – her dream wedding, but nowadays, when the high cost of weddings sinks in, some brides prefer to be more practical and either minimize cost across the board or totally cancel out an item or two on her wedding list.

Wedding favors, no matter how small or how lavish they are, are important because they are a symbol of gratitude to your guests. Thank you notes are also being given but they arrive a few days after the wedding at the soonest. It is important to leave your guests with a little something no matter what it is so they will immediately feel special and important right after your wedding.

If your budget does not allow for some lavish favors, here are some ideas on how to get around it and still give great wedding favors without abusing your bank account or your credit card.

– Make your own wedding favors – If you have experience in crafting or if you know your way around the kitchen, you can make your own wedding favors and what’s best is that apart from the savings, you will make your guests feel truly special as you have poured your heart and your time into making the favors. Sometimes you can make things very easily by taking ordinary items and turning them into wedding favors. For example, you can take mini chocolate bars or Hershey kisses and just add a personalized wedding favor label to the outside.

– Purchase favors from your local grocery store – Almost any item can be turned into a wedding favor as long as you have enough creativity to follow it through. There are a number of cheap wedding favors available such as lip balms, paper fans, and bookmarks that you can easily purchase. Fancy bridal favors are available in specialty bridal shops but if you want to cut your cost by more than half, visit your local grocery store and you may be surprised with what you will find.

– Keep your packaging simple – Whether a favor box or a favor bag, this will be discarded upon opening the favor by the guest. Opt for simpler and ordinary packaging, or even the original packaging of the favor instead of transferring them to another specialized box or bag. Sometimes you may not even need packaging if the favor itself has a beautiful presentation.

– Do away with embellishments or accessories – No matter how simple your embellishments or accessories are, they will still take a bite out of your budget, and it may even double the cost (some embellishments cost as much as the favor itself). Accessories and embellishments can make your favors look special. However, remember that they will be discarded along with the packaging. If you do think you need accessories, check at local thrift stores or online and you may be able to find some really cheap favor charms.

There are many ways on how you can get great wedding favors, but keeping your budget to a minimum. With a little creativity and resourcefulness, treat your guests to great favors that are reasonably priced.
