Why to Spend Your Holiday in Chianti
Whether you are interested in a Chianti farm holiday, or staying in a vacation home Chianti is a vacation destination likely to surpass your expectations. Chianti Tuscany accommodation options are diverse. You can plan a stay at one of many Chianti villas for rent, or at a traditional hotel. There are even farm houses that can be found for rent in the region.
Once you are there, be prepared to be delighted. Chianti is the home of some of the most incredible natural scenes of beauty, finest wine and food, and amazing opportunities to partake in classic tourist opportunities.
Chianti extends through Florence and Siena, and is considered the heart of Tuscany, covering the areas between these two classic cities. The region’s uniquely spectacular landscape is stunning. There are rolling hills that house vineyards and olive groves, as well as the remnants of the ancient villages that have stood guard over the territory for centuries. Like many sections of Tuscany, Chianti is a very busy tourist attraction, in particular during the holiday high season of the Spring and Summer months. Therefore it is best to plan ahead when booking accommodations in Chianti.
Chianti wines are a famous draw to the area, and there dozens of options to chose from if you are interested in tasting, or just learning more about the region’s wines. There are a large number of wineries in the region, and there are different types of wineries as well. There are some small out of the way wineries that produce small runs every years, and there are large and very famous wineries as well. Most of them offer some kind of opportunity to tour their facility or taste their wines.
If you are a wine enthusiast, you might consider beginning your tour at Le Cantine, where hundreds of different wines are made available for tasting. You can also plan a trip to the Wine Museum, which is full of informational displays on the various wines that carry the Chianti name. Both of these wine-related facilities are located in the town of Greve.
Just outside of Greve (about three kilometers), you will find the Castello di Vicchiomaggio, which is castle surrounded by a huge vineyard. There is also nearby the Castello di Verrazzano, the birthplace of the explorer who discovered the Bay of New York. In between all the stops to sample wine, you will want to get something to eat and one easy to get to place to do just that is Panzano, which is the birthplace of the Florentine steak.
The Chianti region is about a lot more than just great wine (not that that is not enough). The Tuscan countryside is full of a near endless array options for outdoor fun. Many people just rent a car and spend an afternoon driving around without directions or a map.
There is also a lot of great hiking opportunities in the area. As with any outdoor activity, hiking or biking is a little more challenging during the heat of the summer; temperatures in Italy can be quite high during these months.
