5 Importance of Good Posture

Posture is a physical attitude of sitting, standing and lying down that we perform in our day to day life. It is important to realize that our unconscious moves can some times lead to serve illnesses. You would be alarmed to know that most of your complaints of back pain, head ache even respiratory problems for that matter originates from an improper posture. Feeling lethargic and fatigue are also common symptoms of poor postures. Having a right posture means that the bones and joints are in a line and the muscles can be used properly. A correct posture also includes the three curves of the spinal cord.

Sitting

– While you sit make sure that your body weight is balanced and equally distributed. Sit up straight with your shoulders back. Your buttocks touch the back of the chair.
– Make sure that while you sit the three normal curves of the back are present.
– Remember to change your position after every thirty minutes.

Sleeping

– While sleeping try to maintain the three curves of your back.
– Avoid sleeping on your stomach.
– Select a firm mattress that does not sag.

Standing

– Stand with your back straight and head straight.
– Make sure that you do not slouch while walking.
– Tuck your tummy in while walking.

Importance of a good posture

– A good posture prevents the spine from becoming fixed in abnormal positions.

– Those who have a good posture decrease the risk of an injury.

– Your posture also determines the airflow throughout our body. A right posture ensures proper circulation of air that is taken in during the process of respiration. As you bring good postures into practice you will realize that your chest opens up. This allows more air to circulate throughout your body.

– Good postures also boost up your confidence level to a great extent. This increase in confidence is only because you starts feeling good about yourself.

– The right posture enhances your energy levels. So you become more active than usual and less stressed out.

Exercises

Posture exercises help in contributing to an ideal posture. They make your muscles flexible. In our monotonous and busy schedule we spend a lot of time sitting and the rest slouching in front of the television. As a result we tend to overstrain parts of our body usually our neck, back and shoulders while the lower parts of our body continue to remain weak.

Posture exercises

– Take a chair and sit straight on it. Remember to keep you legs start as they touch the floor. Now gradually put your chin straight without moving it in any other direction. Sit in the same posture for some time.

– Sit on a chair with your hands on your thighs. When you feel that you are comfortable with the posture, then slowly move your shoulders backwards and squeeze together your shoulder blades.

– While sitting simply pull in your tummy when you inhale and then exhale slowly at ease.

– As you sit lift your breastbones a little higher and then gradually compress your shoulder blades down and together.
