7 Tips to Help You Save Money- Surviving the Recession

1. Stop comparing yourself to the majority- This is very important to understand that we all have different needs and values. We live in a society where everyone wants it now, no patient. Lack of discipline of how we’re going to spend our hard earned money is what got many in financial hole today. Spend money on what is important, and not on some urgent pleasure.

2. Reduce expenses- Get rid of things of less importance. You can save on phone bills by keeping one phone company. With advances in cell phone to call almost anywhere in the world, you don’t need both land-locked phone and cell phone. That money can be put aside for other family expenses. Coupons will definitely help when doing groceries shopping. Buy generic products. They are cheaper, and have the same values as the name brands.

3. Reduce your driving- drive only for family errands and business. Driving less is good for your health, but will save you gas as well. Do some walking to the corner store and park that machine to rest, “the car”.

4. Get a responsible roommate. -If you own a house or two bedrooms apartment get a roommate. Not only you have a new friend, but saving you tons of money in the long run. You don’t need to put your house out for sale, or go into foreclosure. Give that extra room to someone who also wants to save money like yourself.

5. Keep track of your expenses- I know our schools and colleges don’t teach our children financial responsibility and the important of balancing your check book, vital money skills they need to survive the crisis like the one we face right now. If you don’t know where your money is going how will you be able to save and manage wisely? Keep receipts and balance your check book.

6. Look for bargains- Shop around and wait for sales before you open your wallets and purses. Sometimes I shop at discounted stores and thrift stores. These places can offer you high quality goods and services. Many people go to the mall for the name or trying to impress families and friends, don’t that. My advice is don’t pretend yourself to success.

7. Get rid of your credit cards now!- did you know the average American owing about $30,000 on credit card? This one reason why so many people can’t afford to do other important things for their families because of high credit card interest rates. These credits cards companies want you in debt intentionally. We are a nation of plastics debt, “credit cards.” Many people think credit cards will save them money or some kind of free money, but instead it enslaves us. With hidden fees and other hidden charges no wonder so many people are struggling to maintain. Many Americans are drowning in debts. It’s time you learn to survive without that plastic.
