Health and Fitness For Children

Obesity in children

More and more children are putting on weight and heading towards the obese category, causing damaging long and short term affects to their health, as well as putting their futures at risk. To be classed as obese a child of 4, 10″ could be as little as 10 and a half stone, a worrying statistic for many across the country.

Many parents don’t actually realise the long term health implications for an obese child. The list includes diabetes, heart disease and certain types of cancers, not to mention the unhappiness being ‘the fat child’ causes for youngsters.

What can we do?

Government health warnings have been issued to try to steer kids away from the fast food diet many have been used to, but taking the chips away from the children is not always that easy. Schools are encouraging healthy eating with many learning how to grow their own vegetables in a greenhouse onsite.

Other tactics have been Jamie Oliver’s very successful School Dinners campaign where he managed to change the way our children eat at school, binning the bad foods and enjoying healthy alternatives.

In addition to eating well, the most important factor in keeping children fit and healthy is through exercise. Many parents feel worried about allowing their kids out on bikes and in parks as fears for children’s safety have grown in recent years.

Children are easily bored and need something to keep them entertained so that exercise becomes just part of having fun! Most parents would love to be able to fit in their own gym time, but children as we know, take up any free time a parent has!

Kids can keep fit too!

Fitness Classes for children are becoming really popular at family health clubs up and down the UK, it’s great for the parents too as they can co-inside their own fitness regime with their kids exercise class, so no babysitters necessary! Plus it’s a great way to get all rid of all that excess energy most children possess!

Gym classes for the kids are tailored especially for their developing bones and muscles, as it is essential that they are not pushed too far at a young age. The emphasis is on having fun and interacting with other children, so it’s perfect for children who aren’t the best at P.E at school.

Classes include tennis, kickboxing, teen-fit, swimming, multi-sports and even yoga, so there’s lots to keep everyone from the tots to the teens healthy.

Going to Yoga at a young age means that they improve their posture very early on, which is incredibly important as they develop into adults. Most adults suffer from some kind of back pain, usually connected to bad posture from sitting at a desk or driving.

Keeping fit and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, through good diet and plenty of exercise is so important for the younger generation. This will aid them greatly so they can develop into adults who continue to ensure the same for their own children, meaning that we can obliterate obesity once and for all.
