How to Buy a Digital Projector

Trade in digital projectors has become increasingly popular as their affordability has meant that they are more widely used by schools, universities, companies and even home owners. Their popularity is also down to their varied range of applications which may range from training new employees to presenting classes to children and of course entertainment uses such as home theatres. The chances arfe that you are looking to purchase a digital projector so that it can play a useful part in your office or perhaps to replace your current television. Either way it is important to know what factors to take into consideration before you go out shopping as you will want to make sure that you are spending your money wisely.

If you are more of a technical novice then it is likely that you will only have a superficial knowledge about digital projectors so here are a few of the most important aspects to look out for. The first thing you need to consider is the brightness of projector which you require. This will be determined by the size of room in which it will be used as well as the ambient light in the surroundings. The rule of thumb is that the larger the room the more lumens (measure of brightness) you will need. A digital projector with at least 1000 ANSI lumens should be a suitable start.

The next thing to look at is the digital projector’s colour contrast. This will be especially important if you will be using your projector to watch movies with in which case you will want there to be as high a colour contrast as possible. However, if you are looking to use your projectors for more mundane tasks such as business presentations then this wont be as much of an issue so you will be able to save yourself some money and invest in a projector with a lower contrast level.

Another consideration should be that of pixel density. The higher the density the clearer your picture will be.

You may not be aware of the various types of projectors that are on the market. DLP and LCD projectors are the most commonly found with each having its own advantages. DLP projectors will be best used with video presentations on small portable projectors as they are able to boost the overall brightness of the image. This means that you will be able to buy a projector that is smaller in size, however the picture quality will be compromised somewhat.

It is for this reason that LCD projectors tend to be the more popular choice in terms of performance to cost ratio. The picture quality will be much better as the resolution will be higher giving a much sharper image.

If you are looking to make sporadic use of a digital projector then you may be a little put off by some of the prices. In the case where you are intending to use a digital projector as a one off then you may wish to approach an audio visual hire company which will help you to save a lot of money.
