How To Keep It All Simple When Changing Job Careers?

Most people are “comfortable” in their current jobs and don’t want to rock the boat. They have a steady source of income, health insurance benefits and that’s enough. But do you realize if you’re not working on your dream, on your life, on your future, you are helping someone else build theirs? Which would you rather invest in – yourself or someone else? Or, do you have plenty of good intentions about changing your job and yet find they never come to fruition? Do you sit and daydream about what you could be doing and yet nothing changes?

So who decides ‘what next’? Who decides which direction you’re going to go in? Your old university careers advisor? A recruitment consultant? A fortune teller? Only you can make the decision if you truly want to take control of your life. Whether it’s a slight shift in career direction or a total about-face, it’s up to you to decide ‘what next’? It is you who must ultimately decide the one career direction you’re going to try next. Leaving a job is hard sometimes. But I have found that writing your resignation letter is something that you want to put some thought and time into. It is a reflection of your professionalism and can help you down the road. And besides, it is the right thing to do. If possible, you do not want to leave a job on a bad note when you don’t have to.

If you want to achieve your career goals, you should always continue to study and do research. Try subscribing to newspapers and magazines that provide information related to your job. If you do not have money to spare, then visiting websites and online forums related to your job or industry that can also help. More often than not, trade unions or groups also sponsor free seminars and courses that you can attend. Aside from investing in magazines and surfing the Internet, you can also go to your local library or bookshop to read books. Each year, try to read one or two books that are related to your industry or business.
