Malta 5 Star Holidays – Your Island in the Sun
For most of us, owning our own island must unfortunately remain only a dream. However, on the island of Malta, 5 star holidays are available that can help you feel like this island belongs very much to you and you alone!
An island of history
No discussion of Malta would be complete without a brief mention of its unsurpassable history.
Its location in the Mediterranean means that for millennia it has been a crossroads of trade, migration and imperial designs. Not just the home of modern day luxurious Malta 5 star holidays, just about every one of the ancient Mediterranean peoples visited and left their mark on this island. This includes architecture, language, cuisine and culture. Perhaps of greatest familiarity is Malta’s more recent association with the United Kingdom.
In 1800 the population requested British aid to eject French Napoleonic troops and the island became voluntarily part of the British Empire. This association with the UK lasted until 1964 when Malta became independent. It was during the Second World War that, in recognition of the heroism of the islanders in their resistance to German and Italian attacks, the entire island was awarded the George Cross and for some time the island was referred to as Malta G.C. During this period from 1800, English became spoken alongside Maltese and it also rapidly replaced Italian in terms of second-language common use. Today Maltese is the official language although English remains very widely spoken. Italian and Arabic are also spoken by significant percentages of the population.
The people
The Maltese are a Mediterranean people. Their origins are diverse as is to be expected given their history. Some scholars argue that early settlers came from Sicily, Southern Italy and Phoenicia. The local warmth and hospitality are legendary. Fiercely proud of their independence, culture and traditions, they are now full participatory members of the European Union. If you let them, the Maltese people will give you a unique welcome to their island and way of life. When visiting Malta, 5 star holidays allow you to experience this welcome in the most luxurious of ways.
Living the island life
If you wish to have an authentic experience rather than simply a touristic visit of Malta, 5 star holidays are the way to do it. There is simply so much to see and do, that a bit of knowledge beforehand is helpful to ensure that you enjoy everything you want to.
Just a sample of these might include:
– Valletta, its harbour and fortress – a beautiful collection of ancient buildings and winding streets surrounding one of the Mediterranean’s great natural harbours;
– The inland (though nowhere on Malta is really far from the sea) and ancient city of Mdina with its views;
– The numerous ancient churches, some of which boast unique architecture;
– Gozo – the tiny adjacent island to Malta which offers quiet isolated charm;
– The Hagar Qim and Mnajdra – ancient historical sites that are around 1000 years older than Stonehenge.
The cuisine of Malta has been heavily influenced by Italy and Sicily so you’ll find great pasta, pizza and fish dishes. Local delicacies include timpana, which is a form of baked macaroni pie, and fenek, which is rabbit served in a variety of ways. For the pleasures of eating on Malta, 5 star holidays are the way to ensure that you get to sample the local dishes served in an authentic fashion. The island also has a wide selection of restaurants servicing various international cuisines, including Thai, Indian, French and others. Eating well is unlikely to be a major challenge on Malta!
Sea and sand and hotels
Malta has numerous beaches, both sand and rocky variety, and it is fair to say, some of the best swimming and scuba facilities of the entire Mediterranean. It also has some superb luxury hotel accommodation that will please even the most discerning of clients.
