Nothing Edgy About This SUV
The Ford Edge, like several other models in the Ford family, has undergone a makeover for 2011. This new model is clad with an all-new hood, front fenders, front fascia, grille, headlamps and tail lamps. The standard model includes re-crafted 18 or 20 inch wheels while 22 inch wheels are standard on the Edge Sport. Ironically there are few edges to be found on this vehicle. More fluid lines, rounded features and a touch more chrome grace this new Edge. The result is a more polished and sophisticated midsize crossover.
In addition to the exterior upgrades Ford loaded the 2011 Edge with innovative technology. The Edge is the first Ford to combine the revolutionary My Ford Touch technology with the voice activated SYNC R system for effortless hands free communication. Drivers can listen to customized music playlists, view 3D directions on an 8 inch LCD screen, hear traffic reports and access 911 Assist in the event of an emergency. The MyFord Touch and SYNC system literally puts 10,000 commands at the driver’s fingertips.
As always, Ford is focused on safety and has built the Edge to be one of the safest vehicles on the road. An exclusive AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control measures wheel slip as well as side-to-side and lateral yaw rates then automatically adjusts braking and throttle functions. A tire pressure monitoring system assists with traction control while Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot Information Systems monitor traffic patterns to scan for slower vehicles and reduce speed or detect vehicles in blind spots when changing lanes or reversing out of parking spots.
Beyond the elegant new styling and innovative technology, the 2011 Ford Edge offers the best fuel economy and the most power of any other vehicle in its class, outranking the Toyota Venza, Honda Crosstour, Nissan Murano, and Chevrolet Equinox. Advanced engine technology a lower idle speed and fuel conserving, six-speed automatic transmission combine to produce increased levels of power and performance with improved fuel economy. The boost in power is significant. In fact, the 3.5-liter V6 engine with 285 horsepower delivers 20 more horsepower to the new 2011 Edge than found in the outgoing model.
Ford’s attention to detail is carried through the interior of the 2011 Edge. For a quieter ride, new interior sound pack and an acoustic headliner have been added to reduce high-frequency noise inside the cabin. Thicker, acoustic-laminated glass and expandable foam baffles further reduce engine and road noise. For those that like to set a mood, ambient lighting in a selection of seven programmable colors illuminate the interior front foot wells, storage bins and cupholders. Comfortable seating for five passengers includes expanded second row legroom. Soft touch upholstery, silver and wood grain accents throughout complete the elegant feel and add a touch of cozy to the interior of the 2011 Ford Edge. With such abundant niceties it’s easy to forget that the Ford Edge is also a workhorse. A 60/40 split-folding rear seat and fold-flat front passenger seat allow for up to 68.9 cu. ft of cargo space and can accommodate objects up to 8 feet long.
Although it has been said you can’t improve on a good thing, Ford has found a way to do just that with the new 2011 Ford Edge. As a perfect blend of innovative technology, smart economy and luxury Ford surely has a new top seller on their hands.
