Organization of Term Papers
Term papers should communicate the main and important ideas of your research (such as the results and techniques) early and very clearly. Then the body of the term paper can expand on these following points; a reader who specifically understands the structure as well as the big ideas can better appreciate the details of the work. This advice is however applied to the level of sections and the paragraphs. Do not start off with a mass of details, hoping from the reader that he/she might probably figure out which of the points that you have listed down are relevant to your main point, and then later on tell the reader what the main point was.
For each and every section of the paper, always consider to write a mini- introduction that says a little about the organization, what is in each of the parts, and how exactly does one part relate from the other. If we look at the whole paper, this is probably just a paragraph. For a section or perhaps a sub section, it may be as short as a sentence, depending on your requirements and the relevancy of the information. You (the author) may feel redundant, but the reader has not spent as much time with the structure of the papers as much as you have, so they would truly appreciate these signposts that help them orienting themselves within your text.
Some people prefer writing the abstract, and often also the introduction. However, this makes it easier for them to write, because consequently the rest of the paper is already complete and can now just be described. However I would prefer writing these sections earlier in the process (and then revise it as needed), because that is what frames the paper. If you know the organization of paper and the outlook, then to write the front matter would take less effort. If you don’t, then this can be an excellent use of your time to determine that particular information by writing the front matter. However, writing the body of the paper without knowing its broad outlines, takes more time in the long run.
Avoid writing your paper as a chronological narrative of all the things that you have tried, and do not devote the space to the paper, proportionate to the amount of time that you have spent on each of the tasks. Most work that you would do does not have to show on the paper; the main purpose of infrastructure, building and the exploration of the blind alleys is to enable you to do the small amounts of work that is always worth writing about. Another way to state this is that the purpose of the paper is not at all to describe what you have done, but to inform.
There is a proper form of writing a term paper and it requires proper organization to make it look effective and represent able. If you organize the content well you will see for yourself how the paper would reflect your thoughts and represent you well in front of the reader.
