What Can You Tailor on Your Window Blinds?
Window blinds are becoming an ever more popular choice over curtains when it comes to ‘dressing’ windows, providing privacy, shutting out light and adding to a home or offices decor.
The reasons for this – apart from the fact they are so much more versatile than their fabric cousins – is because of the unbelievably huge amount of different styles, materials and colours window blinds are available in.
Take a standard Venetian blind as the perfect example. Venetian blinds are available in aluminium or wood materials. There are benefits to each material in terms of durability, aesthetics and cleaning. However, if we look purely at the aesthetic aspect, you can quickly see that the range of options is almost endless.
Aluminium Venetian window blinds can be specified in almost any colour and many companies offer a palette of hundreds.
Wooden Venetian window blinds offer just as much choice but in a different way. One company, Signature Shade, offers 18 shades of paint and 42 different stain effects! That’s another 60 different colours on top of the hundreds available with aluminium blinds.
But it is not just the slats that you can tailor to match the room you are going to install them in. Consider the rest of the construction of the blinds – many of these features can be specified differently, giving you even more options to play with.
There are cords, valances and tapes used in the construction of a Venetian window blind and all of them can come in different colours and materials.
The tapes which run vertically through the slats can be made from nylon string, tape, cord – all of which can be chosen in a range of colours to match or compliment the window blind and / or the room in question.
The same goes for the cord used to raise and lower the blinds of course, but with an added extra – the ‘toggle’ that goes on the end comes in a range of styles, from elegant gold trimmed to a funky pink colour. The choice really is yours!
Finally, the valance which can be specified in a range of shapes, styles and colours to hide the mechanism at the top of the Venetian window blinds and enhance even further the impact of them and the room as a whole.
The range of colours, materials and designs available that make a window blind more desirable than choosing curtains is not limited to Venetian blinds. There are many other types of blinds and shutters that offer all or some of the options mentioned above – and some that offer other ones to.
Vertical, roller, Roman, pleated, honeycomb, panel and even commercial blinds, plantation shutters, internal shutters and even external shutters – all have their appeal and all boast at least one aspect that can be tailored to suit your taste and the decor of the room you intend to install them in.
So before you hang yet another set of curtains, take a moment to consider blinds and shutters as an alternative and let your imagination run wild. You won’t regret it!
