Add Spice To Chinese Meal – Learn To Use Chopsticks

Do you have a liking for Asian Cuisine? Do you agree that Chinese food is quite tantalizing. To enjoy food whole-heartedly, it must be eaten the way it was meant to be. Without chopsticks there is no fun in consuming Chinese, Korean or Japanese cuisine. In this regard, different services like BBQ catering or corporate catering provide chopsticks according to the type of food ordered. Wooden chopsticks used for eating different foods vary in thickness and length but many people do not know how to use them.

Apparently when you see someone eating with chopsticks, it looks quite easy. But it gets really embarrassing when you try to do it yourself. After getting defeated in your attempt to use chopsticks, you end up using a fork. If you wish to put chopsticks to work, here are some tips for you.

– First of all, you need to stiffen your hand so that you can have a firm grip. Pick the first chopstick between your thumb and middle finger. Hold it such that the narrow end rests on your second finger. The best way is to hold it like a pen.

– After firmly holding the first one, lift your index finger to make room for the second chopstick. The second chopstick rests in between your index and middle finger. This is the most comfortable position possible for holding chopsticks. Make sure the two chopsticks are parallel. It will prevent the chopsticks from crossing over.

– When you try to pick food up, your chopsticks should remain steady. This way you will be able to scoop food like rice from your bowl. After some time you will also get used to picking larger food pieces. You can do this by keeping the first chopstick stationary while moving the second one to pick up food. In this case, the first one acts as a pivot. The chopsticks are adjusted in such a way that when you extend your index finger, the face of chopsticks opens and upon bending the finger it closes.

– This opening and closing of chopsticks takes a little bit of time. You need to practice this movement while picking food. If the ends of the chopsticks don’t cross, then it means you are holding them right.

– Now you can practice this technique with some piece of food. Usually, Chinese food is made in bite-sized pieces. So it is better to practice with some Chinese cuisine.

– Try picking the food at an angle. Before lifting the food, hold it firmly between chopsticks. If you think it feels unstable, then put it down and give it another try.

After all, the way you hold chopsticks shows how refined you are. Do not try to grip them towards the end. It is better to keep your hands as far from the food as possible. Stabbing the food is also considered as bad manners. If you can comfortably pick food and bring it to your mouth, then you know how to use chopsticks by now.
