All About Termites
When most people hear the word termite, they think of all the problems that these little insects can cause. However, most people do not know very much about the different types of damage they can cause and where they are most likely to be found. In fact, some do not even know what a termite looks like. When speaking with representatives from pest control Company, they offered some facts about termites, including why they cause so much damage and what people should look for around their home if they think they might have termites. Below are some “fast facts” about termites:
1. The most important thing to know about termites is where there is one there are probably thousands of others nearby, since they live in colonies, very similar to ants. This means they all have different roles to play, such as reproduction, food gatherers/hunters, and guards for the reproducers.
2. Their appearance also resembles that of an ant. They are very small, like ants are, but they usually have a white or creamy color to them, with sometimes darker brown heads.
3. The termites that cause damage to homes, trees, and office buildings eat the wood, which is why they cause damage. When termites it the wood, the wood goes away leaving a much less secure structure. For homes, this means that termites may cause a part of a roof to collapse, or that they might eat through the outer part of the home. Termites also mean trouble when they eat trees that are near homes or office buildings. This can cause the trees to fall on the home or office building.
4. To prevent damage from termites, both federal and state governments have started spending money to figure out where the termites will start to cause damage in the coming season. Methods are used to figure out where they will be, so that poison can be placed there ahead of time or right when they get there, so they do not have sufficient time to cause major damage.
5. In some parts of the world, termites are used as a food source. They can provide good protein, especially for those who do not have access to meat from mammals. They are also not very difficult for people to catch, since they are slow and it is easy to get many of them all at one time.
Termites cause problems for thousands of individuals around the world every year. They cause structural damage to homes and office buildings and they cause trees to fall after they have eaten too much of them, which can cause damage to not only homes and offices, but to roads and power lines to name a few issues. Recently, in the United States, money has been invested to help prevent these insects from causing too much trouble. In order to protect your home, make sure you are paying attention to any damage that appears both inside and outside your home and if you do catch termites you should be sure you get assistance immediately to prevent any major damage they might cause.
