Damaged Duvets – Financial Cover
Home insurance can protect you financially if your duvet is damaged. Despite their cost, duvets continue to increase in popularity; they’re warm, cosy and complete any bed with style.
It’s possible to compare different insurance policies online, but before opting for the cheapest quote, bear in mind that plans can vary tremendously. It’s worth checking that all of your prized possessions, including your duvet, will be protected.
A good duvet isn’t just for sleeping under. It’s your cloak whenever you creep downstairs for a midnight snack. Or if you’re lucky enough to be made breakfast in bed, it’s your duvet that catches the crumbs.
Although duvets are expensive, they shouldn’t be so precious that you hesitate before dragging yours to the sofa to keep warm on a sick day. Or if you’re watching a movie on a cold winter night with your kids or your partner, you should be able to snuggle up with your duvet and snack on popcorn together without worrying about the mess. In short, duvets should be lived in!
As well as being easy to move from one room to another, duvets also simplify the bed making process. Instead of having to trawl through a variety of sheets, a mound of blankets and probably a quilt or two, a duvet combines all of a bed’s coverings in one item. Perhaps that is why duvets are becoming increasingly popular all over the world.
But how can you decide on which duvet to by? In the 1960s the Shirley Institute developed the tog rating system; the number of togs a duvet has indicates how warm it is. One tog is roughly equivalent to the warmth provided by one dry broadsheet newspaper. A light summer duvet should have about 4.5 togs, compared to a winter duvet which would generally have between 12 and 13.5 togs. Duvets used in spring or autumn tend to have 9 or 10 togs.
Some companies sell a duvet set which includes a 4.5 tog and a 9.5 tog that can be joined together with Velcro. Used individually or combined this set should provide the right level of warmth for all weather conditions.
A good night’s sleep is crucial to our general wellbeing – after all, the average person spends a third of their life sleeping. On a cold winter night there is nothing as comforting as snuggling under a warm winter duvet.
While it doesn’t cover you against general wear and tear, home insurance can protect you financially if your duvet is damaged. Hopefully this will give you the peace of mind needed to really make the most of your duvet, whatever the weather.
