How To Clean Stainless Steel Appliances
Stainless steel is commonly used in utensils, tableware, counter tops, sinks, and other kitchen appliances. This type of metal is known for its solidity, rust-free features, and ability to resist corrosion. Moreover, it can be easily maintained due to its clean surface. However, these features do not mean that stainless steel do not rust or corrode. The metal just has the capability to delay these changes but only if it is not exposed much to grime, dirt, and dust. It does not wear out easily as well, as long as you know how to care of it properly. If you have stainless steel appliances, you should know how to clean them too. Here are some things you should know about cleaning stainless steel.
1. Cloth and mild detergent (i.e. dishwashing liquid)
This combination is ideal for cleaning off tough dirt. Warm water is also needed in the process. This is actually a safe combination for any stainless steel appliances though because it is safe for this type of metal. After cleaning the surface of any appliance using this mixture, rinse it properly to avoid staining or spotting. Moreover, you should wipe the surface with clean, dry tower.
2. Cloth and water
Again, warm water should be used where the cleaning cloth should be dipped into. This is the safest way of cleaning stainless steel appliances. While wiping the surface dry, follow the direction of the appliance’s polish lines.
3. Glass cleaners
These are used to clean off fingerprints from any stainless steel surface. These cleaners include basic glass cleaner or ammonia. Rinse the surface properly and dry it up. To avoid the messy fingerprint marks on appliances, find some with stainless steel that have finishes that resist fingerprints.
4. Stubborn stains
These can be removed using mild cleaning solutions. This means the use of fibre brush, sponge, or rug. Use any of these to rub gently on the stainless steel surface. Again, dry the surface well after rinsing.
5. Stainless steel cleaner
There are many types of cleaners for stainless steel that can help remove stain, reduce the marks of scratches, and shine the surface of the said appliance. To be safe, follow instructions written usually on the labels of the polishers or cleaners. Rinse properly and dry the surface up with a clean towel.
6. Organic solvents
These are effective removers of grease or oil marks on the surface of stainless steel appliances that are used with oil or near oil. Clean the surface with soap and water. Dry it up and polish it well.
7. Satin finished
Appliances with satin finishes may not be scratch proof but the marks can be removed with the use of soaked nylon pads. Scouring pads are safer and gentler than steel wool but are still effective at removing scratches. Steel wool will only cause more scratches on the surface. Deeper scratches would entail the use of iron-free abrasives. Polish the surface and clean the appliances with soap.
8. Rust and other corrosion
This cleaning will require a solution of one part of nitric acid and nine parts of warm water. Leave the solution on the affected area for half an hour to an hour. After the allotted time, rinse the appliance properly and throw away any of the extra solution. While mixing the nitric acid solution, mix it in glass container with gloves on your hands.
9. Natural ingredients
These would refer to the use of club soda and olive oil. Club soda can remove stains and streaks while olive oil can also remove streaks. Vinegar is also effective at cleaning off heat stains.
