Reading Glasses – Choosing A Plastic Or A Metal Frame

In the world of fashion reading glasses today; one finds a gamut of glasses to choose from. We find readers that are different in colors, designs, styles, shapes, features and so on. In the olden times, however, people wore monocles for reading purposes. But we do not see those anymore. Monocles have been replaced by the fashionable and trendy glasses of our times. Despite of a varied range of collection that one gets to choose from, the option of selecting a frame remains quite simple; it’s either a metal frame or a plastic frame. In this paper, I will talk about different aspects of metal and plastic frames.

There are people who select frames based on their fashion value and the outlook of it. And then there are others who prefer the comfort level and the flexibility of it. Metal frames fall under the latter category. For, metal frames are very flexible and comfortable. Especially if it is made of metal called ‘titanium’, the frame becomes more bendable and unbreakable. But then the flipside of it would be that it comes with a ‘handle with care’ tag because it then becomes prone to get crushed easily. There are such metal frames available in the market today that get folded completely and can be carried with you like a small pouch. Plastic frames, on the other hand, cannot be folded. In fact, some metal frames are so thin and sleek that even if you carry it with along their case, it’s as if you are carrying a pen. All metal frames come with nose pads for more comfort. However, those nose pads sit on your skin for hours and they start to turn green over a period of time due to the contact with oils of our skin. This makes it a bit difficult to keep it clean and hygienic. Whereas plastic frames do not have such nose pads to worry about.

On the other hand, there are these trendy and fashionable plastic frames with so very many designs and colors that you cannot find in metal frames. This is not to say that metal frames are not stylish but they cannot be compared to the variety available in plastic frames. Besides, they are very much in fashion today. Some people like to wear plastic frames just going by the look of it. For example, I bumped into a lady in the store who was wearing one such trendy plastic frame which matched to the rest of her ensemble. So, I gave her a complement on it. She said,”I am probably ruining my eyes wearing them for they are not prescription ones, but I wear them anyway because they look so good”.

Hence, it depends completely on the buyer and his/her purpose of buying the frame as to which frame to select. I know it’s a tough decision to make but you gotta do what you gotta do!!
