The Choicest American Sweets
America is famous for food, amongst other things, not least their vast range of sweets, confectionary and other treats for those with a sweet tooth. Until recently, anyone outside the US had a hard time sampling the many delights on offer there, but now importers are making American sweets available overseas, including in the UK.
The question is, which sweets and candy should you go for? When you have a choice between chocolate, hard candy and soft candy it can be pretty difficult to choose. Here we list some of the tastiest and most popular treats from the USA and why you should give them a go first. We’re pretty sure that once you have tried them, you will be back for more and more!
Wonka Nerds
Available in a multitude of flavours, Wonka Nerds are amongst the most popular hard candies in America and are proving just as popular here in the UK as well. You’ll know the name Wonka from the film ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory of course, but did you know you could buy actual Wonka sweets?
These small, tangy sweets generally come in boxes containing two flavour combinations. These include “Lightning Lemon and Amped Apple”, “Strawberry and Grape”, “Watermelon and Wild Berry”, “Cherry and Watermelon” and “Lemonade Wild Cherry and Apple Watermelon” – these last being described as ‘double dipped’!
Wonka Nerds also come in a giant, chewy version comprising a hard shell and a jelly bean centre. Something for everyone there!
Jolly Ranchers
Another HUGELY popular American sweet and another from the hard candy category. You may have heard of Jolly Ranchers already as they are often mentioned on American TV shows and in films.
Basically, Jolly Ranchers are a hard candy – larger than Wonka Nerds – that comes in bags containing several different flavours, namely apple, blue raspberry, cherry, watermelon and grape. You can also buy Jolly Rancher lollipops too. They also come in a bag of several different flavours, including lemonade, cherry, watermelon and apple.
Laffy Taffy
You might not have heard of Laffy Taffy but you may well have heard of taffy, the chewy candy that is similar to toffee and is obviously part of the soft candy family of sweets! Laffy Taffy takes that concept and reproduces it in a soft, chewy bar in a rainbow of flavours.
You can choose from cherry, sour apple, mystery swirl, raspberry, strawberry, mango and melon, grape and banana. If you want to know what the mystery swirl flavour is, then you’ll have to buy it to find out!
Pretzel Flipz
Finally one from the chocolate category of American sweets – Pretzel Flipz. Essentially they are pretzels, the salted bread snack, covered in chocolate. It’s an interesting combination but it works!
It’s not limited to plain old milk chocolate either. Pretzel Flipz are also available covered in white fudge and, again, it works, honest!
There are many more American sweets and candies you can try out, these are just a few of the most popular in the US. They’re now available in the UK and beyond, so go on, give them a whirl!
