The Perks of a Dark Colored Area Rug
One of the things consumers are starting to notice when they are redecorating their home is that there seems to be an ever expanding selection of carpet color choices. It doesn’t matter is the person is looking for wall to wall carpeting or if they just want a couple of nice area rugs to spice up their living quarters. There is every color of the spectrum to choose from.
On one hand having so many choices is kind of nice. It provides the person with even more opportunity’s to express themselves through their home’s decor. But on the other hand, the sheer number of options can be very overwhelming, especially since that each new color also represents an opportunity to make a bad choice.
The thing that the person has to consider when they are purchasing a new carpet or area rug is that as long as it matches their color scheme, they will be making a good choice. Another thing that they have to consider is that darker colored area rugs are becoming increasingly popular.
Dark Rugs Create Some Balance
Many people are starting to decorate their homes with a more Mediterranean style. Since one to of the main focuses of the Mediterranean style is light, this usually means the decorator sticks to pale and bright colors. While there is nothing wrong with all this brightness, sometimes it is nice to have something a little dark to balance it. A great way to do this is by spreading either a black or blue area rug on the floor. The darker color helps make the room seem even brighter; sort of in the same way a dark blue ocean makes the sky seem even more turquoise.
Dark Rugs Look Better Longer
Another reason to use a dark green, navy blue, burgundy or black area rug is far more practical. The darker the area rug, the less likely it is to look dirty. Even if something accidentally gets spilled on the rug, there is a greater chance of the stain being noticeable than if the same thing were to be spilled on a paler modern area rug.
Another thing that will help prevent your darker colored area rug looking great is if you purchase one that feels quite thick. The thicker the area rug is, the more material there is to absorb the spill, which actually decreases the chances of the stain being noticeable.
Just because an area rug is a dark color doesn’t mean it will never be cleaned. The rug will still need to be vacuumed and/or swept and if something does get spilled on it, the rug should be spot cleaned right away.
Dark Rugs are Versatile and Striking
Some designers feel that the darker colored area rugs are more versatile, that they can be used in a greater number of decorating schemes than a pink or yellow area rug.
One nice thing about an area rug that has a dark base color is that when a lighter colored design is worked into the rug, the effect is always striking. This is sometimes just the touch a room needs in order to make a statement.
It is no possible to find dark colored oriental, flokati, and floral area rugs.
