Why you should prefer one date over all the others for your baby shower depends on many conditions that may be different from one mom to the next. The yearly activities of people, their whereabouts, the expectations of the mother regarding the kind of pregnancy and delivery that she will have should all be considered.

The second month of pregnancy is preferred by most

On the second month, the mother will still be in good enough shape to attend comfortably to her guests and participate in the merry-making. Her stomach will hardly have grown by then and she will not have developed any of the unsightly signs of pregnancy that surface during the later months of the term. She won’t be needing extra attention from anyone yet.

No mother wants to dampen the festivity of baby showers by wobbling their way among their guests, half out of breath. That is simply not in keeping with the right spirit in which a baby shower should be given.

A premature birth should be considered

The percentage of premature deliveries is a small 8 to 10 %. That is not an exceedingly small chance and could possibly happen to you. In fact, women who have had one or two premature deliveries should decide on organizing a shower after the birth of the baby.

Holding the shower early allows you to itemize and plan for the things you still have to purchase for the baby after the shower. Although we don’t really invite people to baby showers so that we can receive things from them, traditionally people have always given things that the baby can use on those occasions.

An early baby shower is definitely indicated if you have already had premature deliveries in the past.

Consider the activities of people during that time

The date of the baby shower shouldn’t coincide with times when most people are out of the country for some reason or another. For instance, not in the middle of December when lots of your friends may be in the far east or some other sunny place. Olympic game seasons are also not appropriate for setting dates for baby showers if the games aren’t being held in your country.

Take the time to know the availability of the people you intend to invite before deciding on the shower date.

How does ‘after the baby is born’ sound?

It is sometimes better for the mother to hold the baby shower after she delivers the baby. By then she will have recovered from everything and will be in a better position to attend to the guests attending the shower.

In the matter of inviting people to baby showers, it is best to let your friends organize the shower for you. In that way, accepting the gifts that you will be sure to get won’t be somewhat embarrassing.

For reasons of their own, some mothers do not feel good about having a lot of grown-ups looking at and playing with the baby a few weeks after it was born.
