Tips For Staying Healthy When Vacationing on the Road
Everyone needs a break from their jam pact routine, stressful days and huge load of work. What could be better than a vacation on road? A vacation is all about appreciating the delights of the landscape as they unfold before your eyes as you speed across the countryside. It is altogether a new experience to be a part of a different culture, taste various cuisines.
This is also the time when we put on a lot of weight. Bored in the car you tend to grab a packet of chips and keep mouth munching. Instead of this eating, try to keep yourself busy. Indulge in taking photographs, talking to people traveling with you. Many people think of vacations as an excuse to overeat. As a result we end up gaining pounds at the end of our trip. So it all depends on your mindset.
Although a vacation means a break from your monotonous routine, it should not be a break from your healthy habits. By putting in a little effort you savor your holiday to fullest and at the same time maintain your fitness level. It is better to take proper measure so that you can avoid consuming unnecessary calories.
If you are traveling by car it is important that you pack a few nick-knacks. Follow the below listed tips for effective results.
– Make sure that you have your breakfast before you leave.
– Carry a small cooler (with ice packs) where you can keep freshly cut fruits for the journey.
– Try not to indulge in greasy chips as they contain a lot of unhealthy fats.
– You can also pack sandwiches made with whole grain bread and peanut butter.
– Pack nuts such as almond, cashews and walnuts as they are filling and keep you off calories.
– Try to avoid eating full meals. Stop at a place, relax, stretch yourself out and then satisfy your hunger. In this way enjoy your meal and also pay close attention to satiety signals.
– Omit drinking coffee or aerated drinks as they do energize you for a short period but the drops of caffeine can make you even more tired.
– Do not skip meals and try not to keep yourself empty for more than 4-5 hours.
– Also be cautious of fast food and roadside restaurants. If there is no other option then choose the healthiest items available like salads, sandwiches etc.
– To maintain your energy levels and to keep yourself hydrated drink plenty of water.
– Do plan stretching and exercising breaks to avoid stiffness. This will also help you to be more alert and energetic.
If this diet is implemented while you are on your vacation, you surely will remain fit and avoid the unnecessary calories. You probably would not loose weight on a vacation but would definitely maintain your physique. It’s worth making all the effort and using time to plan a healthy vacation.
But never forget to keep your diet free of cholesterols. Ask your dietician before leaving for a vacation on road.
