Basic Living: The Richer Life

Whatever your present financial condition, you are potentially a winner, a success. No matter how small your present income, part of that income can and must be saved if you are going to become a financial success.

I do not care if all you can save is a dollar a week; start there. Soon you will discover ways to save even more. The rule is simple: You must always be saving.

And don’t wait for others to help you with saving. You can do it yourself!

I doubt that I can convince you that everything you need to achieve success in your life resides within you, but that’s the truth. However, that does not rule out the need to search for wise counsel, to read, to study, to ask questions of other successful people. You will want to do that, but in all your searching, remember this: You are designed for success. In fact, you’ll have to work against your designed purpose if you are to fail!

It’s true. You are potentially a financial success. Start today by becoming a saver now. Easy? Not really. In fact, Emerson said: “If you can’t save money,
the seeds of greatness are not in you.”

Emerson clearly knew of the common temptation to spend unwisely, to attempt to find a shortcut to financial success, or to mortgage yourself into success. Actually, saving money is a test: a test of your will, to determine whether you’ll live the Richer Life or merely sample it.

Decide now that you are going to be one of the few people who reach your dreams. Become a saver, which in time will mean financial success.

Remember, being broke is temporary; being poor is a state of mind. Most of our fellow travelers on the road to financial success will never arrive at a point where they achieve peace of mind, prosperity, and financial liberty. Why? Because poverty truly is a state of mind.

Think about it. What have you lost when you lose money?

If you have your health, time, energy, dreams, and goals, you will soon be on top again. Being broke is simply a temporary condition you might experience as you pursue success.

And, if you fear going broke, you’ll never be rich. This is true because faith and fear cannot coexist in the same heart. If fear rules, you’ll always settle for less than the very best. You’ll not have sufficient faith to be a daring success. Fear is a strong and toxic emotion that creates all sorts of compromising attitudes. Fear holds many people in its grip.

You don’t have to practice fear to be consumed by it. Fear seems to take on a life of its own, corrupting the future, making the present an unhappy existence. Faith, on the other hand, seems fragile. It must be supervised constantly, reinforced, promoted, and held tightly. Faith is the ingredient that produces the sunshine; fear brings forth the darkness. Faith produces creativity, the positive side of life; fear produces the negative, the doubt and the lie. As an old hymn says, “Faith is the victory!” This is certainly true for those who live the Richer Life.
