Getting arrested for driving under the influence means that one gets caught driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 or over. If you are twenty-one, you can get arrested and get charged for it. If you are under drinking age, you can get into trouble with the law and you have been drinking at all. If you are under drinking age and you have a blood alcohol level over the legal limit, you can get into even bigger trouble. Consequences include losing your license and many other things. You do not want this to happen because it may be a while before you get it back and depending on how bad it was; you might not even have the chance to get your license back. It is not a good idea to drink and drive. When you go to a party and you know you will be drinking, arrange to get a ride with one of your friends who is not drinking. You can take turns if you want and you can still have fun even if you do not drink. If you all want to drink, and you are of age, you could all arrange to sleep at the house you are drinking at. That way, everyone can have fun and still be safe.

If you do get caught for drinking and driving, you will most likely be taken to jail if you are above the legal limit. Always remember to remain calm because if you fight with the cops, you will always cause more trouble for yourself. If you have been caught, there is no turning back and you might as well cooperate. If you cause trouble, they could use it against you in court. If you refuse to take the field sobriety tests, which you do have the right to do, you will most likely be taken into the police station so that they can give you a breathalyzer exam. They have every right to do tests to make sure that you have not been drinking because they need to keep others on the road safe.

If you need to, call someone if you are in a place where you cannot get a ride. They would rather you call them and get home safely than you try to get home drunk. Anyone would be a little annoyed but would understand. Even if you are not of age and you have been drinking, it is better to call your parents and get into trouble with them than getting into trouble with the police. Your parents will appreciate it too because you will be safe.

There are so many ways to get around driving drunk. Never let anyone drive drunk. Find a taxi, walk home, or make someone be the designated driver. You will keep yourself safe and everyone around you on the road will be safe too.
