Lovely Pianos Will Stay That Way If Covered Up Properly

Anyone who has a lovely keyboard or instrument will certainly want to take care of it very carefully. To this end, there are many piano bench covers or a piano cover on the market which fit the whole thing perfectly. However, for those with an unusual model, who want something a little different from the stock articles, having something made to order is probably the best thing to do.

Indeed, down through the ages, people have used all kinds of thing as a shield for their beloved instruments. Silk shawls with long fringes were all the rage in the twenties and during the Victorian era had its own share of ways to protect the instrument. Indeed, so prudish were the Victorians that it was the legs which had to be hidden because it may remind a man of the leg of a woman!

Blankets and quilts have also been used down through the ages, and considering that some of those handmade quilts are now worth a fortune, it is no wonder that this is not done much anymore. Even hanging curtains and newspapers have been used too but this does not give a very good protection or look either.

The reason the wood must be protected is that these instruments are very sensitive to outside influences. Our modern heated homes do nothing but dry up the wonderful wood if we are not careful about where it is placed. Also, air conditioners do not do them any good either since these can drip onto the workings of the instrument or the wood and all kinds of things can then go wrong with it.

Even sunlight streaming in a window may look wonderful bouncing off the high shine of the wood but when it starts to fade out the owner starts to wonder if this was a good thing at all. Indeed, anyone who has an instrument next to a window should consider putting a protective film over the window to stop the rays from damaging anything in its path, and this can include expensive carpets too.

All this seems to be a little convoluted and perhaps the best thing to do is to have a custom-built wrapping made for the instrument. Not only will it look good, it can also be matched in to the furnishings in the room too. Although some of these wraps come in stock sizes, they are a little limited for choice of materials so the connoisseur may want something a little more up market.

There are companies which not only have stock items, they can also make made to measure wraps in any kind of material which is suitable. One easy way to measure the instrument is to make a paper pattern of the top of the instrument and then merely indicate the depth of the machine so that the maker can get the dimensions right. Sending along a photo of the instrument may help too since the maker can see if there are any protrusions which were missed on the original plan.
