A Closer Look at the 2012 Ford Focus
Economic times are rough and affordable cars are more popular than ever. It doesn’t make sense to invest a large amount of money into a depreciating asset when times are uncertain. Affordable cars are quickly regaining popularity and the Ford Focus is a leading contender due to its relatively low price. Ford engineers have revamped this car and the 2012 is sleeker and much improved. Over 55% of the vehicle’s body is constructed out of steel; that’s more than any other Ford on the market. There are four trim levels available; S, SE, SEL and Titanium. The Focus competes with other formidable cars such as the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic.
The Ford Focus is a car that emphasizes practicality, functionality and excellent mileage. The engine is a four cylinder 2.4 Liter with 155 hp and 145 lb feet of torque. Mileage is at around 40mpg on the freeway. The dual overhead camshaft uses direct injection which delivers the precise amount of fuel directly into the combustion chamber and thereby eliminating any wasted product. Ford has plans for a newer Focus with an efficient Ecoboost engine. Two transmissions are available; a manual transmission and a dual clutch gearbox. Gas mileage stands at around 40 mpg, which is pretty good. The Focus is the ideal every day car for anyone who wants a practical and efficient car without spending a fortune.
Another innovation for 2012 is advanced torque vectoring control. This feature allows for excellent handling around curves. The system works by adjusting power between the wheels for optimum performance and applying just the right amount of brake pressure. You can even be creative and make your Focus a showstopper by decorating it with tattoos. This is a cool and fast way to customize your ride and give it some personality. Features for your convenience include a rearview camera, keyless entry and a system to help facilitate parking in narrow spots. Ford’s MyFord system is also available which allows you to easily switch up songs and adjust music volume from the convenience of the steering wheel.
The base S model is equipped with manual climate control, an AM/FM compact disc player with four speakers and an air filtration system. . If you choose the upper level SE trim you get Ford’s Mykey system which allows parents to set the speed limit at which their teens are able to drive. Standard safety features for all models consist of dual stage front air bags, side curtain bags, 3-point safety belts. For added protection, the safety belts are height-adjustable. The Titanium model adds in a sunroof, a premium Sony sound system and Ford MyTouch which allows the drover to use the phone and command the audio system via voice commands. A tire pressure monitoring system is in place as well as electronic stability control.
During tough economic times, it makes more sense than ever to conserve money and purchase a reliable car with 40 mpg. In addition, the Focus offers tons of safety amenities and a new sporty look. Pricing for the sedan starts at $15,999 and $19,899 for the hatchback.
