This is the condition wherein the person being hypnotised is placed under a trance or a spell. Hypnosis is usually considered by many as a trick that could pose dangers to the person under it. This trick is also actually real and not just some little game that is played for the pleasure of the people watching. However, there are already many myths and misconceptions concerning hypnosis that they surely need to be addressed now. This way, you would see the truth behind all the myths regarding hypnosis.
1. It can make another person wield control over you.
This is not actually true because being hypnotised is not mind control. You will still be able to do the things that you want to do and disobey the guidance of the person who hypnotised you. Usually, this is the myth that could have produced fear from among people regarding being under the power of a hypnotiser. In the case of being under the control of a professional stage hypnotist, this is just for entertainment. It would even be fun to participate in this type of trick but it is not actually true that if you are hypnotised you can be forced to do things that you do not really want to do. Basically, you are under self-hypnosis if you have successfully been hypnotised. A hypnotist in a medical setting would instead guide you towards the goal that your session is set to achieve.
2. It is not real.
Some scientists have tested the brain of a person being hypnotised by carrying MRI and PET brain scans. They found out that certain areas of the brain would work when a person is hypnotised.
3. It is only effective in people with slow or weak minds.
This is not true because even normal and truly intelligent people with high IQ can still be hypnotised. The higher the IQ, the greater the chances of being hypnotised due to stronger concentration skills.
4. It can prompt you to spill out your secrets.
Again, you will still be in control of yourself and your actions. Thus, you cannot be simply forced to say what you do not really want to. You can still keep your mouth zipped up to keep your secrets.
5. It is only fitting for entertainment.
Watching a person being hypnotised on stage or on television is truly fun. However, altering your state of mind with the help of a hypnotist can also help you change your habits, find solutions to problems, and improve your life. It can also help cure fears, negative habits, control pain, manage stress, and more.
6. It is modern.
It has been around for the last 150 years, as practiced by many people all over the world.
7. It can last for a really long time.
This is not true because you can control your own exit from being in a different state of mind. Snapping out of being hypnotised is just like getting out of sleep.
8. It is a loss of consciousness.
The hypnotised person is still very much ware but the mind is busy wandering.
