How Baby Boomers Have Affected Their Communities

World War II was winding down in 1944 and 1945, and many of the military fellows were on their way home, to friends and family. These warriors had been at sea, or across the sea, for many years, many not being able to secure leave because of war time conditions. That is a long time to be separated from your wife or girlfriend. These veterans wasted no time getting back into the swing of things, once back in the arms of their loved ones. Baby boomers were the consequences.

It is possible that no homecoming group of military has ever had such long-reaching effects on society as did the Second World War troops. Between the years of 1946 and 1964, the results of those homecomings began to make the scene in homes and hospitals across the nation.

One result of this phenomenon is that a majority are at the top of some of the most powerful and influential corporations. When they retire, their Generation X children will fill the void in many cases. When that occurs, the healthy elderly community might like the opportunity now to travel the world, or the parts they consider best.

Among some of the primary concerns of a baby boomer are health related. Life expectancy has been increased for so many years that the \”golden years\” folks have extended time in which to live, laugh and be happy. They would like to do that with money and their health. Food supplements and vitamins directed at the old timers are prevalent among the many found in the pharmacy and supermarkets around the world. This may well assist them in staying on top of their health.

Of course, at this age, many have lost their companion and choose to remarry or at least date. Not doing either is also a choice. There are predatory practices going on out there, in person and on the internet. Sometimes elderly people are susceptible to these con artists, so caution is well advised. It is important, however, to be active and interact with others. That is just for good mental health.

Another way to keep active is to go back to school. The one thing a person can \”take with them\” when they pass on, is the knowledge they have in their brain. Education can help the \”oldster\” to learn about a new subject and in so doing, perhaps exercise the brain tissues enough to stave off diseases such as Alzheimer\’s. Some people have the idea of \”use it or lose it\”. This could be not far from correct.

For a lot of retirees, finances are not an issue and they can do just about anything they wish to do with the rest of their lives. If anyone wants to seriously consider living in a foreign country, depending upon which one you live in now, you could have a higher standard of living by taking your retirement funds there. Expats can be found in many different countries, doing just that.

Many times, parents will have children leave the nest, only to return again after a few years, sometimes with family in tow. Baby boomers can be very adaptable and can usually absorb this with not much trouble. If it gets to be too harrowing, though, they often take off on a trip or extended vacation. Many others just love having all those kids around and wouldn\’t miss it for the world.
