How One Average Joe Broke Through The Internet Marketing Barrier
One day I woke up to realize I was tired as hell of the rat race. Like most people I was grateful for having a job, but on another level I was seriously dissatisfied with my professional life. You see, I didn\’t have the money or the freedom to do the things I wanted when I wanted. At some point I said to myself, \”there\’s gotta be a better way!\”
About 6 months went by when suddenly I stumbled onto a project that I felt, without a doubt, would turn my life completely upside down. And although initially I was extremely excited about the endless possibilities my new future held, I quickly ran into a brick wall while doing 100 MPH.
You see, I wanted to take a unique approach to building my business by leveraging the power of the Internet. The problem was that I had absolutely no experience whatsoever in the field of online marketing.
I got the idea of taking the online approach from a book I had recently read, \”The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century\” by Thomas L. Friedman. It\’s about the rise of globalization and technology and how it is increasingly \”flattening\” or leveling the playing field worldwide. It\’s truly amazing what one average individual can accomplish now a days through online collaboration, outsourcing and in-sourcing.
Actually, the book sat on my shelf for over 3 years. It wasn\’t until 3 months before I stumbled onto this remarkable business that I actually took the time to read it.
Then shortly thereafter I picked up Darren Hardy\’s book, \”The Compound Effect: Multiplying Your Success One Simple Step At A Time.\” It\’s about setting realistic goals, drafting a plan to achieve them, and then doing the plan diligently – day in and day out – which in turn will compound your actions over a period of time. This translates to massive success.
It was as if I were being prepared for my new adventure.
My plan was to come up with a \”silly\” simple, yet powerful system that ANYONE could duplicate. Duplication was the key. Because if the average Joe could not duplicate it, there was no way in hell it would work.
I went full speed ahead, only to be frustrated beyond belief 3 months into my new venture.
I bought and devoured everything having to do with online marketing, from SEO (search engine optimization) to PPC (pay per click) to how to write killer ad copy, etc. I bought books and online courses from the top Internet marketing gurus. I also got a ton of free stuff online. I quickly became overwhelmed with a ton of information, but I proceeded as best I could.
The information helped me tremendously, but I quickly realized someone had thrown a monkey wrench into the mix.
You see, all the material I was absorbing was essentially emphasizing the same thing: The importance of good, quality content. The kind that adds value to your audience; and more importantly, a killer sales letter. The problem is that the Internet marketing gurus don\’t give you what really matters: The actual content and the actual sales letter. When you think about it, they cannot because they\’re not familiar with your particular product or service.
Sure, they go over what constitutes good content and the 6 or 7 points of a good sales letter. The problem is that the ordinary person will NOT become an expert copywriter over night because, let\’s face it, in reality it takes years to develop these skills. That puts 99% of the people looking to market online at a huge disadvantage. That\’s why good copywriters are few and far between, and why they can charge major moolah for their services.
What’s more, they don\’t\’ tell you that today\’s blogs, Adwords and other online media have become so sophisticated that they reject anything remotely resembling spam. You can\’t even write about your product without risking rejection. In a way I don\’t blame them. But the point is that the gurus don\’t adequately tackle this issue.
Google rejected my first ad and threatened to ban me because my landing page did not resemble a bonafide website. Squidoo rejected my first blog (known as a \”Lens\”) when I wrote about an obscure but powerful active ingredient that supports your body\’s immune system. I didn\’t even mention my company or the product. I disputed it but they still rejected my article.
I thought to myself, how can I possibly compete with the online gurus who\’ve been doing this for decades?
So there I was, utterly dismayed. Even if I did tackle all of these issues, which would have taken me at least 1 year, a ton of time and thousands of dollars, the system would still not be easily duplicated by the average Joe. I was back to square one.
I wondered if there was a solution to my problem. So I put this thought \”out there.\”
In the meantime I sought for ways to improve my sales letter. Realizing I was no expert, I was sure it was pretty crappy. Then all of a sudden I got an idea.
I wrote to three Internet marketing gurus. I was entertaining the idea of paying a couple of thousand dollars to have my sales page written by an expert. I had spent too much time and effort to give up now. Honestly I didn\’t expect a response from any of them. So as you might imagine I was shocked when one of them, Dr. Kevin Nunley, actually responded. But I was even more shocked at what he had to say. Here is his response:
\”James,
Thanks for all your good info below. I appreciate your time to write all that down and send to me.
First off, you\’re way ahead of all these other guys. I\’ve been writing sales letters for thousands of customers for 15 years and I have NEVER seen anyone write a sales letter like yours. Your sales letter is just as good as those written by the best copywriters hired by gurus. Sure, there are a few places in the letter that I would edit or change, but the fact that you wrote the letter yourself makes it MUCH more powerful to readers. Put right next to where you introduce yourself, ‘I wrote this page myself. It\’s my words. I didn\’t hire a copywriter or a guru. These are my words, my thoughts, and my promises to YOU that I will help you become successful!’
My advice is to go with the copy you have, then start advertising. You are a great writer, so write some articles and post them at http://ezinearticles.com and have http://isnare.com distribute them (only $2 per article.) Start your own blog and write down your thoughts every few days (just like your email below.) The key to Good Adwords is to keep your ad short and kind of boring. Still, they can send you a lot of traffic. Jerry West is the search engine expert you can trust. See his ebooks at http://www.seorevolution.com/ebooks.html They are the best in the biz.
That\’s how the guru\’s did it and most aren\’t nearly the writer you are.
Best,
Kevin Nunley

Needless to say I was completely blown away! I thanked Kevin and assured him that next time I\’m in need of anything marketing-online, his website would be my first stop.
So that\’s my sales letter (you can click on the link at the end of this article to view it), which I plan on using in additions to my “simple and easy to duplicate” program – if I ever found such a system.
But, I still couldn\’t get that monkey off my back; that is, I still needed a system that was \”silly\” simple and easily duplicated by the ordinary person who didn\’t necessarily have expert marketing skills, but that did have the will and the drive to make their dreams a reality.
Exactly 24 hours after I put this thought \”out there,\” I was introduced to two of the top producers for the company I had recently become a part of.
(I got involved with the company through an email newsletter I received from one of my favorite best-selling authors. When I saw a particular quote from a former president of the American Medical Association, my brain was jolted and I instantly knew there was something very special there.)
As I was saying, I was introduced to two of the top producers in the industry, Mike L. and Saul J. Would you believe it, these guys came out of retirement when this particular company came on the scene about 4 years ago. They had made their fortunes years back with another company in the telecom industry. I couldn\’t believe it! These guys earn zillions of dollars and they\’ve taken me under their wing. The company is that new and I feel extremely fortunate for having the privilege of working with these guys.
Anyway, I was explaining to Mike and Saul on a 3-way call about my \”online\” frustrations. Low and behold I learned they were in the process of finalizing an online system called \”My Dreams to Build\” and that I was welcome to become part of it. Boy, talk about perfect timing. That was the solution to my problem!
These guys actually came up with a system that is \”silly\” simple, yet powerful because it can be duplicated by the average Joe and you don\’t need to know anything about the Internet. But the crazy thing about it is that the creators themselves – the top leadership – work hand in hand with the participants. So everyone has their very own massively successful mentor. It\’s exactly the type of system I had envisioned but could not bring to fruition due to my limited knowledge of online marketing and financial resources.
During the 3-way conversation Saul said to me, \”James, what you need to understand is that people don\’t join companies. They join people whom they trust and believe can help them become successful. The biggest obstacle to people in our business, especially the newcomer, is lack of credibility. This system solves that because you will become part of a community of leaders.\”
Then they made me a promise: \”James, this company will NEVER let you down and neither will we.\”
The program launched recently and it\’s successful beyond belief. Ads are placed in Google Adwords and other media to attract qualified leads. It has an 82 percent conversion rate. And of the 82 percent who participate in the 3-step \”mentoring\” program, 80 percent end up signing with the company. That is WILD!
So this is my first attempt at writing valuable content. This is my story and it is my hope that it will contribute to your success, whatever that may be. In my opinion it\’s about persevering and always keeping your mind focused on the final outcome. You may not be able to always control what occurs to you, but you can ALWAYS control HOW you RESPOND to it. Do not ever allow yourself to respond with thoughts of judgment(condemnation)or victimization. Always look for the opportunity in everything, even if it means merely looking at the situation at face value, learning from it in some way, and moving on.
When you adopt this attitude, your mind will take every single circumstance, be it \”good\” or \”bad,\” and interpret it as an opportunity or a way to get you a little closer to your goal. What was previously perceived as a setback is now seen as an opportunity to get you one step closer to solving the problem. Then watch how solutions to your problem will begin to present themselves to you in a way you can accept and understand and to the extent they contribute to your goal and therefore get you a little closer to making your dreams a reality.
To your success,
James Moreno
