In an effort to showcase the incredible craftsmanship and skill of the tabaqueros, or artisan cigar makers, Benji Menendez personally selected a team of 18 master cigar makers, who symbolize the level of talent at the El Credito Cigar Factory in the Dominican Republic. Thus, the level of artistry needed to make cigars of such complexity would not only be tested as far as the design, but would prove to exceed expectations in a big way thanks to this elite group.

La Gloria Cubana Artesanos de Tabaqueros is similar to many other complex cigars because they have two wrappers, and contain many different proprietary blends located in multiple locations throughout the cigar. However, these sticks stand out as extraordinary because they are the only cigar that has two wrappers which never overlap each other, providing two different smoking experiences within one single cigar. In addition, because the large majority of flavors in cigars are attributed to the wrappers, the smoker will experience a total flavor transformation that is easily distinguishable.

Upon setting fire, the first introduction of flavor comes from the Connecticut Shade wrapper nearest the foot of the cigar. This wrapper extends up the La Gloria Cubana Artesanos de Tabaqueros smoke, claiming territory for a little more than the first third. During this time, a peppery taste is introduced and complemented by a rich spice. Shortly after, a creamy and smooth taste takes over and holds on with medium strength for about 45 minutes. It then quickly changes directions and makes a turn for a bolder and stronger flavor. This smoke is definetly worth stocking in your humidor.

Once this rapid transition hits, this will signal the end of the Connecticut Shade wrapper and the beginning of the Sumatra wrapper, where intense notes of leather dictate the path throughout the remainder of the smoke, leaving amateurs a little shocked. The intensity quickly multiplies and a much fuller and richer flavor makes its presence known. By this point, the long solid ash and even burn only add to the immediate satisfaction.

Overall, the La Gloria Cubana Artesanos de Tabaqueros makes a great addition to the already fabulous line of Cubanas. These cigars are definitely recommended for those smokers that have plenty of experience with very strong cigars. Therefore, novice smokers should be cautioned when taking on one of these rods, especially toward the end of the smoke.
