A History Of Paul Garmirian Cigars

For those seeking to be in good standing among some of the world’s most elite and influential people, smoking Paul Garmirian cigars is just one way to instantly gain their respect. Paul Garmirian cigars have been pleasing world leaders and the socially elite for two decades. And they continue to rank high among aficionados worldwide. From Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, to Arnold Schwarzenegger and David Letterman, these hard hitting politicians and celebrities give their nod to some of the most incredible cigars ever made.

Perhaps one of the most interesting details about the Garmirian brand is the story of how the line actually came about. Paul Garmirian was born in Lebanon and eventually settled in the United States, earning his PhD cum laude in International Politics from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Little did anyone know, his stint in Washington would eventually foreshadow the many devoted cigar enthusiasts that would eventually enjoy his offerings, in addition, he served as a professor of Politics and International Marketing, and effectively ran his own real estate firm in Virginia until 1990.

After dabbling in cigar smoking for forty years, Paul Garmirian set off on a journey to write a complete guide to cigar smoking, which would entail seven years of research and two years of writing. This comprehensive book, The Gourmet Guide to Cigars, serves as a handbook for enjoying cigars and understanding the art behind them. It has been reprinted nine times and was translated into Spanish in 1993.

This journey of research put Paul Garmirian in contact with many powerhouses in the industry, including Hendrik Kelner, who is the president of Tabacos Dominicanos. The two began testing different blends of tobaccos and eventually came up with the perfect recipe for the new Paul Garmirian cigars, which was un-veiled in Washington, D.C. in November of 1990. This line of cigars started with six sizes and has since expanded to include twenty-one sizes. From there, other Paul Garmirian cigars have been born, including the Paul Garmirian Gourmet Series II, the Reserva Exclusiva, the 15th Anniversary Celebration, and the Symphony 20.

Paul Garmirian stands out as extraordinary in comparison to other cigar makers because he strictly monitors and selects the shops that are allowed to carry his brand. In addition, Paul Garmirian cigars cannot be found in magazines to order, nor can they be purchased wholesale. This in turn makes them more valuable and treasured, especially when one of these cigars is in an aficionados possession.

Furthermore, there are an undisclosed number of perfectly aged cigars tucked away in the rafters of his warehouse, which have been patiently aging for over five years. Each of these cigars are personally signed and dated in the year they were made by Paul Garmirian. This line of cigars is referred to as either the Paul Garmirian Signature Series or the Paul Garmirian Family Aged Series, and is not included in his traditional price sheet. In fact, only Paul Garmirian knows exactly which cigars are aging, as he does not disclose their identities until he decides it is time to sell them in person. Thus, it is no wonder that this brand is so highly rated and exclusive.
