Place detergents, sanitizers, fabric softeners, other chemicals and alcohol on the top shelf of your coverts. This is very dangerous especially when your child gets mobile.

Put locks on all your drawers and cabinets, especially those ones that house dangerous things like knives, chemicals and medicines.

Put door guards on your doors. Kids tend to fit their hands on tight spaces. This will hinder the door from closing on your little one’s hands.

Place electrical outlet covers to unused electrical outlets.

Bolt cabinets and other furniture to the wall to prevent them from falling to your baby.

Don’t leave pots and pans on your stove, especially if they contain hot soups or boiling water. Also, turn off the gas if you’re not using your stove. Your child may turn them on while you’re doing something else.

Make sure that every room in your house has a smoke detector.

Encourage your kids to play with bigger sized toys. Give away toys that are small to prevent choking.

Place your computer, sound system, television and other gadgets on a higher surface to keep them out the reach of your child. Be sure also to properly tape the wires and tuck them safely behind your electronics so that your child would not be able to pull on them.

Cover up your fireplace.

Purchase baby gates that are tall enough to keep your child in.

Some furniture may have pointy edges on them. Kids may trip over and scratch themselves. Use some heavy cloths to cover them.

Make sure that your home phone and cell phone has these numbers on speed dial:

– Doctor
– Poison Control
– 911
– Fire Department

You can never be too careful when you have a child. It is indeed a change and quite an adjustment has to be done. But once we see them smile, it’ll be all worth it.
