College Dorm Room Accessories

Any incoming college student might feel too excited and overwhelmed with the idea that he or she is going to start living in independence. Because of this excitement, you may want to take with you everything from your parents’ home to your dorm room, or may lead you to buying so many things that some of them will not be necessary anymore. Always put in mind that since you are just starting out, and that your room might not have too much space, all you need to have are basic items.

The most basic needs are bedding essentials, which should give you comfortable rest and sleep after a busy day at school.

– Keep at least two sets of sheets
– 2 or 3 pillows
– Blankets if you prefer those
– A bathrobe and a pair of indoor slippers
– An alarm clock

It is expected that most of the dorms will have shared bathroom among many people in the floor. It is clever to prepare for this situation.

– Provide yourself disposable slippers which you can use in the dorm shower
– A small basket where you can place bath items
– 3 to 5 apiece of towels and washcloth, as well as hand towels
– Soap with a soap dish
– Toothbrush holder with toothbrush and toothpaste
– Shaving essentials especially for male students
– Deodorant
– Nail clippers
– Lotion
– Over the counter drugs and prescription drugs for unexpected headache, cough and colds, or fever
– Feminine hygiene products, and other personal hygiene needs.

Some college students who are inclined to fashion might decide to wear stylish clothes each day at school. There is nothing wrong with this, as long as you feel comfortable with it. However what you really need are weather-appropriate basics.

– Comfortable shoes for walking around campus. It can be trendy or not, as long as it is comfortable in your feet
– Rain boots
– Work out shoes, if you have gym class or is in a sports organization
– Climate appropriate jackets and coats, and also winter accessories such as gloves and scarves
– Sweaters and sweatshirts
– Jeans and other comfortable pants
– T-shirts
– Undergarments

Other non-compulsory but very useful items would include
– Mini refrigerator
– Microwave oven
– Basic dishes and utensils
– Rug
– TV (with or without DVD player)
– Framed photos
– A bulletin board
– A whiteboard

These items may not be really necessary for others, but for some they find these important in their everyday lives. Their life in a dorm by themselves is easier and pleasant because of these items.

While a lot of these items aren’t going to be required, you’re going to want to make sure that you consider a lot of these as you’re going to find that you’re not going to be able to live without a lot of them! Also, make sure that you check with your college to ensure that you know the rules as well. Most of the time, you should be able to find these rules right on the college website itself. If you\’re finding that you can\’t find it on the college website, be sure to call up to ensure that you know what you can, and what you can\’t bring.
