Different Types Of Internet Gamer

This article will attempt to outline and teach you the various types of internet gamer. There are multiple types of categorised gamer ranging from total beginner right up to professional league players.

I will start with the best players and work my way down to the beginners starting with.

The Professional Gamer (Pro-Gamer)

This person plays computer games or online games for a living. Pro gaming has become big business in parts of Asia with some players being sponsored by companies for over $100,000 a year. Some British or European players can take home £20,000 a competition and competitions are becoming more and more popular.

Some pro gamers specialise in one title, or one franchise of titles. Others play all types of game and spend most of there free time play games.

Hardcore Gamers

This type of gamer is what we all know, the teenage boy who sits in his room until 5am playing World of Warcraft or call of duty. Constantly trying to perfect his accuracy and unlock all 5000 hidden achievements.

Some hardcore gamers naturally evolve into pro gamers, with many joining teams or guilds in an attempt to be noticed or picked up on by the larger community. Gaming communities which span multiple counties and languages.

Some hardcore gamers have even gone on to work for the game companies directly, either as software testers or content creators. And get paid a wage for something they enjoy doing.

Casual Gamers

This is it, the category that most older people fall into. We enjoy fun, addictive and entertaining game play, we\’ll sacrifice graphics quality for playability or ease of play and don\’t instantly run to the shops to buy the latest best selling blockbuster games.

Although you do get casual gamers that are male, most casual gamers are females, who like to pick up a game and play for a hour or so before moving onto something else.

Casual gaming has become a lot more interactive recent with the addition of motion sensors, and platform where the user can get directly involved in the movement and game play of their virtual character.

Newbie

These are the players that are either very new the gaming (newb), or players who are deemed to be unsuccessful at gaming online (noob).

These players are often openly mocked when they play online by the more hardcore gamers, which has led to more and more incidents of virtual bullying in recent years.

Retro Gamer

Many old console emulators are available online these days so the retro gamer can download their favourite old-school games and play on their new modern systems.

Retro gaming is coming back in a big way. People are remembering the original and addictive games they played as a child/teenager and want to relive some of those moments so along with emulators more people are actually digging out their old consoles from the attic and getting right back to how games used to be played.

This list isn\’t exhaustive and there are many subsets of each type of gamer, but hopefully now you\’ll be able to easier identify the gamer type in each of your friends.
