Make Your Bridal Shower “Sweet” With a Candy Theme
When it comes to parties, there’s nothing as exciting as a wedding. It’s the biggest day of two people’s lives, after all. Not only is the Big Day thrilling, but all the events and activities leading up to the ceremony are a lot of fun. Along with the fun though, can come stress and fatigue. Endless planning, meetings with the wedding coordinator, and uncooperative suppliers can take some of the glitter out of the celebration. So what better way to erase that stress than by having a party with your closest friends!
The bridal shower celebrates your last few days as a single woman. While typically given by friends or relatives, this party should reflect your personality, from the beverages and food served to the music and games played. This is your last hurrah at being single, so make sure it’s what you want. There are many themes for a bridal shower. For those with a sweet tooth – or who just want to celebrate their “sweet” love – a candy-themed shower offers delicious fun for everyone.
Here are some ideas for a perfect candy-themed party. You can incorporate some for a fun twist on the classic bridal shower or go all out on the sweets for a candy-lover’s dream celebration.
For decor, old-fashioned candy necklaces can be worn by guests (great party favors!), cut and glued as a border around banquet tables, or cascaded over vases or centerpieces on tables. Use colorful and tasty Ring Pops as napkins rings or name place holders as well as fun, fake engagement rings for the guests. Colorful lollipops of different heights and sizes placed in white flowerpots add a sense of whimsy and invitation, as they seem to “grow” right out of their containers. Another great idea is to fill large, clear vases with different varieties of colorful candies, one vase for each main table. Use bright coordinating colors for the linens and other decorations to further emphasize the candy theme. Striped or linens printed in fun, colorful designs are a best bet over solid colors. You’re visually going for the look of your favorite well-stocked candy store: lots of color and enchantment.
A great way to get your guests involved and circulating is to place small candy machines throughout the venue. Guests not only get to choose their favorite treats, but the change used to “buy” their treats can add up to some serious dough for the honeymoon. Be sure to warn guests on the invite to bring change, and be sure to provide coins for those who forget. These machines are available for purchase in general merchandise stores, and the more industrial-sized ones found in business lobbies are available for rent from specialty stores.
For a game idea, have guests compete by guessing the flavors of lollipops. Blindfold the participants and let them guess the flavor of the lollipops you present for tasting. Whoever guesses the most correctly wins a tin of sweets. Use some pleasing but unconventional flavors to make the game interesting.
A candy-themed bridal shower is unique, can be a lot of fun, and offers you a chance to do something “sweet” for the bride-to-be. This is one party guests will remember for years.
