Prep Football Badge – Cannon

You can see it as early as kindergarden. The kids are out on the playground throwing balls (and hopefully not stones) around when one of the kids steps up and rockets a throw way past everyone\’s head. Even at that age, the other kids stand there and gawk at amazement. They may not know the term yet but they intuitively understand that kid has a cannon! That ability to whip the arm and resulting ball/stone/stick in such a fury usually continues as the kid gets older till you have a bona fide high school football star. From age 8-18, we wanted to celebrate the God-given talent to throw at ridiculous speeds. Welcome to the Cannon prep football badge.

The football badges were designed to celebrate every aspect of high school football and we\’ll continually bring out new designs as we\’re suckers for following your creative whims. The initial PrepSportFantasy.com launch will have 15 badges exclusively for football and a few for those brave souls that sign up early for the greatest prep sport website ever (scientifically proven with monkeys). They\’re not your usual static picture which is so 2005. We wanted animation and attitude all wrapped up in 280×50 pixel glory. We hope you enjoy and we welcome our community to offer their own badges for consideration. Now, let\’s take a look at the Cannon badge.

It\’s a shout out to quarterback\’s out there. First, you see a black background with the tell-tale swirls of a gun barrel\’s inner chamber. The barrel color starts white and you just see the grey helmet of a player. As the animation progresses, the helmet (worn by Quarterback) comes closer to show QB at the line of scrimmage. He lift\’s his right arm to show a cannon for an arm which fires off the title \”Cannon\” to the left as the barrel circle turns black in the background. The firing has the distinctive red smoke donut around the end of the barrel which evaporates as the animation progresses. The Cannon football badge.

Why cannon? When I throw a ball (like most non-freak, normal people) it comes off the hand with moderate speed. Clearly a human throw. When the high school Quarterback freak throws it, it looks like it was shot out of a cannon. My throw goes in the usual arc for any toss over 20 yards..clearly a sign of feebleness. When the cannoneer (I think we made that word up) throws it, it looks….well it looks like it was shot out of a cannon. You would think there was a zip line he attached the ball to and it just went straight into the poor receiver\’s hands that has to rip it out of the sky. It\’s one of the skills we all amaze at and people either have it or don\’t. It might as well be hair color but we still marvel at the ability to fire off football passes in that tight spiral like it\’s shot from a cannon. Here\’s to you, arm freaks.
