Things You Should Not Do at Disney Film Auditions
When taking their children to audition for Disney film auditions, most parents forget that they are being watched as well by the casting crew. Your child could be perfect for the role but if you are a difficult person, the casting directors may think twice about working with you and your child. On the other hand, you could be on your best behavior but your child is not, just because they do not know any better. To ensure that you and your child maintain the expected decorum during the Disney film audition, here are a few things that the both of you should not do.
You should always avoid walking into the audition room chewing gum. This may seem archaic but you never know what habits the casting directors consider pet peeves. You should not take it for granted. So ensure that neither you nor your child is chewing gum when you arrive at the audition as it may cost your child a role in the film just because the casting director was disgusted.
When you and your child meet the casting director, you should not avoid eye contact. If your child is shy, you will have to explain to them the need to come off as confident. The only way you the casting director can notice you is if you make an impression so teach your child to deliver a firm handshake and to make direct eye contact when addressing the casting director. On the other hand, this does not mean that they should keep looking at the casting director during the entre audition. The audition should be performed as it is supposed to be.
Although you and your child should come off as confident, you should make sure that you are not overbearing. You can make conversation with the casting crew but you should not try and pump them for information. Disney film auditions rarely let the parent follow the child into the audition room. For this reason, you should prepare your child on the proper form of conduct. They should be pleasant when greeting the casting directors. They should perform their audition when instructed. They should than the casting directors for their time and then leave the room. They should not ask the casting directors for reviews immediately nor pester them if they have gotten the part.
When prepping your child for their audition, ensure to tell them not to make excuses if they make a mistake during their audition. You have to keep in mind that the casting directors are probably going to audition hundreds of children in that one day. Their time is very precious. Instead of your child trying to explain why they have made a mistake, they should simply apologize and move on. This will also ensure that they do not lose their focus.
Lastly, do not force your child to go for a Disney film audition. This should be completely of their own will. An unwilling child is the worst situation to have at an audition.
