Tips For Auditioning For Disney Series
Most shows on the Disney channel tend to have triple threat child actors. This means these children can act, sing and dance! If your child is aspiring to get a role in one of the Disney series, they will also have to be triple threats for them to impress the judges. Here are a few tips to ensure that your child makes the most of their audition.
You should select a song that they enjoy singing. This will ensure that your child injects the right energy and passion into the song. You should also select song that is age appropriate for your child. For example, if your child goes to sing something that has adult themes, this would make the casting directors uncomfortable and chances are it will cost your child the audition.
When selecting a monologue for your child, ensure they also have some input into the process. They could choose to perform a monologue from their favorite Disney movie. If the show they are auditioning for has been on air, they could select a monologue from a favorite episode. Keep in mind that most auditions last anywhere from two minutes to ten minutes so your child should be prepared for any eventuality. Its better they are safe with extra performances under their belt than being sorry that they are short. So formulate the monologue in a way that it would be complete whether your child had to stop at three minutes or at seven minutes.
If your child will be auditioning for a specific character that is being replaced on the show, it would be advisable to watch past episodes of the show to become familiar with the character. You could also request for past scripts of the show well in advance of the casting call date so that you can help your child familiarize themselves with the nuances of that particular character. This will help your child incorporate the role into their character making it much easier to connect with the character.
When it comes to the dancing bit of the audition, do not fret if your child has never taken a dance class in their life. Though this comes as an added advantage to most children, the basic principle of having a dance routine at a Disney series audition is so that they can see if your child has a natural inclination to dance too. Let your child make their own routine; this will let them be as creative as they want. If they are having trouble, feel free to help them. This dance routine could be performed separately or incorporated into the singing part of their audition. All this will depend on the time constraints.
Never let your child go for an audition dressed up in a costume. The Disney crew has a wardrobe department and that is their forte. What you should ensure is that your child is dressed comfortably. This will enable them to perform their audition flawlessly without feeling uncomfortable when they are dancing, singing or acting.
