Tourist Attractions to Visit on a Trip to California

If you are planning a trip to Southern California to see America’s Finest City, there should be a number of things on your must-see list while you are there. Start by enjoying the variety of architectural features like stamped concrete and retaining walls. Many of the architectural features around town have Spanish influences and these can be seen in the details of the buildings. The downtown area also features a number of modern buildings that will be of interest to architecture buffs. There are historic areas of town that feature architecture not found in other parts of the city or even throughout the entire state. When you are touring the popular areas in the city, take time to look around you and photograph buildings that are of interest.

There are several different neighborhoods throughout the city and the Gas Lamp District is one of the most popular, especially among tourists visiting town. This area is named for its quaint gas lamp lights that line the street. The area is filled with restaurants, galleries, nightclubs, bars and cafes and is usually crowded during the day or night. Everyone likes to meet up with friends for a drink after work in one of Gas Lamp’s friendly watering holes. There is often live music playing in the evenings and if you are young and hip, you will want to include a few nights in Gas Lamp on your travel itinerary.

Kids and adults both love getting up close and personal with sea creatures and this can be done at Sea World. This is a theme park destination that features sea life shows and attractions that the entire family will love. There are sometimes killer whale shows featuring the world-famous ocean giants, although it is best to all ahead to check the schedule. Other attractions include being able to feed dolphins and porpoises, petting manta and sting rays and learning about the ecosystem that lies beneath the ocean waters.

The city’s zoo is probably the world’s most famous zoo. Visitors come from all around the see the Giant Panda residents at the zoo. There is usually a long line to get into the panda exhibit, so plan a few extra minutes for your wait. You will also get to see creatures including flamingos, bear, deer, rhinos and giraffes. The great thing about this zoo is there is no off-season for winter weather. The animals are out and about all year-long, no matter when you visit.

Finally, take some time to visit the city’s Balboa Park. This area features a variety of historic architecture, several museums and is often host to live musical performances. On any given day, you will see families picnicking, school children exploring on field trips and young professionals enjoying a stroll through the park on their lunch break. A number of tourist motorcades stop in the park, so if you are planning to take an organized tour of the town, you will be able to hop off the tour and spend a few hours in one of the city’s most famous areas.
