What\’s the Difference Between a Stun Gun and a Taser?
Average people cannot usually tell apart the difference between a stun gun and a taser. Oftentimes, the two are usually interchangeably used. What exactly are the differences between taser and stun gun? Yes, we can exactly say that they both have the same mechanism of action. That is stupefying anyone poked by it. Yet somehow, there is still a huge difference that lies between tasers and stun guns. Let us find them out through a brief explanation in this article.
Stun guns and tasers act in the same fashion. When the trigger is pulled and poked at somebody, this will inflict stimulation to the nerves thereby resulting to involuntary movements. Both are greatly used by many especially those who are in authority although the UN have been in a dilemma on its possession. Both are actually safer to use than any other weapons. It is considered less lethal. However, there are reported injuries and deaths caused by these weapons according to the UN. UN says that this is also a form of torture and this is against the human rights which are written in the international law. That is why these become a great concern for them. Nonetheless, both of these devices are really important for those law enforcers. It would help them pacify those who are belligerent to the law.
As previously discussed, both have more often than not same mode of action yet there is still a spot of difference between the two. First up, let us discuss how a stun gun functions so we may be able to distinguish it from that of a taser. Stun guns work best within a very close distance. For it to work properly, you may need to come near your attacker and poke it directly to him. This immediately sends out nerve impulses resulting to muscle twitching whereas, tasers are very effective even within a wide range of as much as 15 feet. So, with tasers you don\’t necessarily have to come within a close range which gives you lesser chance of being attacked. The difference between tasers and stun guns lie within its effective tactic range.
Aside from that, cops and other law enforcers would also prefer using tasers than stun gun. As you may be aware, policemen are using newer versions of tasers such as the M26 and X26. Since tasers can still work well even at a distance, they are good to use on those who are fleeing. You can find all these useful stuffs at some local gun and armory depots. You still need to be wary when using either stun guns or tasers. Though they are considered as non-lethal, it can still injure a person or in worst scenarios, can even cause death. So, you need to be disciplined when using them. Besides, police officers are using them with great caution. They are only using this in minor cases such as nuisance, traffic regulation, disturbance and other violent forces.
