There are two parts to the equation of evidence-based behavioral epidemiology both of which require answering key questions or KQ’s. The first part of the equation is “Behavioral Epidemiology.” Epidemiology is taken from the term epidemic and is associated with the cause and control of disease. Behavioral health epidemiology is in regard to the cause and control of emotional and behavioral disorders. The term \”behavioral epidemiology\” has been in use since the 1970’s but there has not been a systematic framework to clearly define it until now.

Defining behavioral epidemiology and specifically a behavioral health intervention begins with answering seven KQ’s. Once these questions are clearly answered the formation of a behavioral epidemiologic model can take place. Clearly answering the seven KQ’s enables one to recognize a consistent process the subconscious must go through to bring about an emotional state and behavior. This subconscious constant occurs after an event and can be repeated continually by the subconscious until it is interrupted, restructured and reprogramed.

Interrupting and restructuring a subconscious process before it manifests into an aberrant emotional state and disordered behavior eliminates the need for background history, diagnosis or analysis of external variables and events. The same process which enables the subconscious to continually repeat a traumatic experience or reproduce a disruptive emotional state is used as the foundational tool in the Subconscious Restructuring® paradigm to assert control over an emotional state and behavior.

Efficacy of empirical data in behavioral health occurs when constants are measured and changed. Validity and legitimacy of the data occurs when it is generated by the client. The constant in behavioral health is the clients’ emotional state. Measuring, monitoring and improving this constant is what brings about the efficacy of a behavioral health intervention.

Case Study

The following case study is a forty year old female who worked as a mental health professional for 20 years. There is a question of disorder transference from patient to counselor which is not an uncommon hypothesis in the field of mental health.
