Aboveground Pools Could Be Shifted From Chlorinated to Saltwater
Aboveground pools are types of pools that are visually appealing due to their unique designs and fancy themes. They are usually attractive not only because of their beauty but also because of the comfort and fun they bring on the swimmers. Most of these types are chlorinated pools that use the aid of chlorine in disinfecting and keeping the water clean of bacteria and bad microorganisms as well as maintaining its crystal clear look.
However, this type of pool system can be costly to maintain especially in the long run as the consumption of chemicals on a daily basis can be very expensive considering the size of the pool. Aside from the cost, constant exposure to these chemicals can cause many side effects including serious problems on the swimmer’s health such as cancers, abnormality in the swimmer’s immune system and a negative effect on their fertility as well. The most common disadvantages of chlorinated pools to its swimmers are the skin reactions that cause skin irritations and sometimes eye irritation. Chlorinated pools also emit a foul caustic odor that can suffocate bathers when inhaled for a long period of time. It can also affect the respiratory system as it releases chemical residues hovering in the air right above the pool waters.
Shifting from your old pool system is the right thing to do if you are concerned with your health as well as with other people’s as saltwater pools pose no threat to the environment.
When preparing for your big transition from chlorinated to saltwater pool system, discontinue the use of chemicals one week before you change the system. Drain the water where you can use it for other purposes that you intend. Give your swimming pool a good cleaning not only for the sole purpose of shifting to the other process but also to keep your pool ready. When you are satisfied with its cleanliness, you can now fill the pool with clean water until it reaches your desired water level. Make sure that the water is sufficient enough but not overflowing as to avoid the saltwater spilling out of the pool. Salt is a corrosive substance so make sure that it is carefully confined within the pool to avoid damaging the pool furniture. Add the salt on the pool water and make sure that the amount you use fits the required salt scale indicated on the product label. Check out the water lines and locate where you can install the new chlorine generator. Keep in mind that this new pool equipment will be your ally on keeping the pool clean and disinfected aside from the dissolved salt. The generator makes sure that the salt is broken down into essential agents’ hypochlorous acid (HCIO) and sodium hypochlorite (NaCIO) both used as sanitizers for the pool water. Carefully cut the pipe lines after you have closed the water line to avoid getting distracted by the flowing of water. Set up your chlorine generator as well as its wiring and the control panel. Keep the chlorine generator running for about 12 hours or until you are satisfied with the pool water.
